Advanced Drug Delivery (ADD), part of Global Research Technologies (GRT), is establishing its presence in the Great Boston area with the purpose of developing the next generation of biologics-based treatments to address unmet needs within a broad range of serious chronic conditions. You will join a vibrant team of scientists in Lexington to drive innovation of emerging drug delivery technologies across a range of modalities, indications, and routes of administration. The Position The Principal Scientists will be part of a highly ambitious multidisciplinary team dedicated to developing the next generation of drug delivery systems that enable and improve administration of peptides, proteins, and other emerging modalities. Collaborating closely with scientists across the global Research and Early Development (R&ED) organization, the individual will drive innovation of novel drug delivery systems. The job entails leading multiple research projects concurrently and responsible for project planning, execution, and delivery, including defining project goals and timelines. Moreover, the role requires active engagement with internal and external stakeholders, along with leadership in forging strategic partnerships in the biophysics and formulation field. Relationships Internal relationships include working closely with scientists within ADD as well as with other departments in Boston, Denmark and around the globe. The individual will work closely with project teams and support pipeline progression across the Research & Early Development (R&ED) organization. The individual may supervise and mentor less experienced team members. This position is an individual contributor role and will not have direct reports. The Principal Scientist will have significant interaction with external research collaborators both academia and industry. Essential Functions Advance research projects by demonstrating technical mastery, creativity, and scientific leadership in advanced drug delivery, and broad knowledge of related disciplines including a strong understanding of the pharmaceutical industry Analyze highly complex data with high degree of sophistication, connecting disparate datasets to reach conclusions and set direction on experiments Maintain a deep understanding of theoretical knowledge and a connection to the external scientific community through continuous evaluation of relevant literature Expand the capabilities of advanced drug delivery sciences through the generation of new ideas, evaluation of novel drug delivery methodologies, and implementation of technologies that add value Establish and lead academic / industrial partnerships to complement internal efforts Build and maintain professional networks internally and externally and identify opportunities for collaboration / co-creation Mentoring junior scientists and providing scientific guidance to ensure project success. Provide strong technical guidance within the field of expertise Qualifications Bachelor's degree required. Masters or PhD strongly preferred. PhD with 10+ years relevant industry or post-doctorate experience OR Master's Degree with 16+ years relevant industry or post-doctorate experience OR Bachelors with 22+ years' relevant experience can be considered Relevant required experience includes: Deep understanding of advanced drug delivery principles across range of modalities and routes of administration Experience formulating and characterizing advanced drug delivery systems for oral and parenteral administration, including solid state and biophysical characterization Proven track record of scientific leadership and achievement within the advanced drug delivery field Demonstrates exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to create and deliver compelling presentations Preferred experience includes: Experience with working with advanced modalities (e.g., peptides, proteins, oligonucelotides etc.) Experience with working with delivery systems for modulating the release of active pharmaceutical ingredients such as polymers Establishing, shaping, and driving complex cross-functional collaborations both within an organization and with external partners, commercial and academic We commit to an inclusive recruitment process and equality of opportunity for all our job applicants.
