Job Description: This position works in a team environment and uses engineering expertise and project management abilities to contribute to the development and manufacturing of core hand tools. Specific duties include: Duties and Responsibilities: Perform software modifications to existing manufacturing machinery and process system PLC's HMI's and Data Collection systems. Understand and troubleshoot PLC, human machine interface (HMI), and Data collection system software. Experience working with high-speed automation equipment and programming, debugging, and maintenance of PLC systems (Rockwell Automation Allen-Bradley, Siemens Simatic, B&R) as well as touch panel interface systems (HMI design). Providing automation support for plant innovations, performance enhancement, loss elimination and process improvements. Collaboration with maintenance, electricians, manufacturing engineers, suppliers, and other technical staff. Assist with capital project management and execution as needed. Understand AC and DC motors, variable frequency drives (VFD's), inverters, servos motors; sensing devices such as proximity sensors, photo eyes, motion detect, mass flow, temperature and conductivity sensors and transmitters. Candidates must possess some level of mechanical knowledge and experience in the troubleshooting of automated equipment. Use CAD to create, approve and release industry standard Drawing files. Understanding of design system requirements and selecting appropriate hardware for BOMs. Create PLC, HMI & Robot programs from scratch for specific jobs. Follow and debug programs written by others. Troubleshoot automated assembly machines and service systems as required. Robotic programming experience with Fanuc, ABB, Epson or similar systems. Project Management: Lead mid to high level automation projects, providing direction, guidance and engineering expertise to team members. Facilitate project flow involving regular contact with engineering, manufacturing and other cross functional teams. Manage strategic cost, quality and delivery initiatives with aggressive focus on breakthrough process and technology improvements to achieve a substantial competitive advantage. Implement Capital Projects; track project schedule to ensure adherence to timelines. Schedule and develop agendas to facilitate and document project meetings. Track project schedule to ensure adherence to timelines. Deliver formal presentations to leadership regarding project status. Interact with suppliers to develop process specifications. Process Design Analysis. Perform a wide variety of calculations and software aided analysis. Other Requirements: Ability to travel domestically and internationally for machine and/or concept evaluations. Estimated yearly travel, 10% - 20%. Most trips will be contained into 1 week with possibilities of weekend travel. Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds repeatedly to a height of 3-4 feet with possibility to lift 35 pounds. Ability to learn technical material. Ability to be interactive 'hands on' with each upcoming engineering project. Education and Experience Requirements: A Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer/Control Engineering, or Technical College graduate or equivalent, with five years' experience preffered in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical or Automation technical areas. Preferred enhanced specialty skills in new process Controls and Automation development and implementing. Advanced computer knowledge and skills in MS Office and Solid works/Auto CAD.
