Job Description The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person. We exist to provide answers in support of families, victims, and community during times of profound need. Under the direction of the Director of Forensic Imaging and Senior Photographers, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties, but not limited to: JOB DESCRIPTION Under direction from the Director of Forensic Imaging and Senior Photographers, incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but are not limited to: Takes autopsy, evidence, crime scene, disaster exercise, and other photos. When undertaking field assignments in any borough office, monitors compliance with citywide forensic imaging procedures and assures that the necessities for proper, continued photographic operations are maintained. Assists in maintaining a high level of photographic quality throughout the agency. Assists other OCME staff in photographic projects. May perform any other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Three years of full-time paid satisfactory experience acquired within the last ten years as a professional photographer; or An associate degree from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional, or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), including or supplemented by 12 credits in photography, and two years of full-time paid satisfactory experience as described in '1' above; or A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional, or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), including or supplemented by 24 credits in photography, and one year of full-time paid satisfactory experience as described in '1' above. Note: Experience in film and camera sales is not acceptable. Experience as an amateur photographer such as that acquired in a hobby or leisure time activity is not acceptable.
