Job Description If you are hired provisionally in this title, you must take and pass the Civil Service Exam, when it becomes available, to be eligible for continued employment. Hours/Schedule: 8am-3;30pm (1/2 hour lunch break) Work Location: 260 11th Ave, NY, NY The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible. General Support Services (GSS) provides safe, healthy, and appropriate facilities for HRA's social service programs. Its many functions include facilities planning and coordination, design and construction, renovation, repair and maintenance, custodial and other building services, health/safety program coordination, lease and property management, land use and environmental review activities, contract administration and warehouse operations. GSS plays a major role in HRA emergency preparedness. Under the supervision of the Supervisor Plumber, the Plumber installs and maintains plumbing systems, drainage, vent lines and other ancillary systems for heating, air conditioning and toilet fixtures at HRA facilities. HRA has over 100+ locations which house staffers and client populations. The Plumber supervises Plumber's Helpers and may be requested to supervise Steamfitter's Helpers. The Plumber works from blueprints and with instructions from the Supervisor Plumber and Supervisor of Mechanics to complete all jobs in accordance with New York City Building Codes and industry standards. General Support Services (GSS)/Facilities Operations (FO)/Trade Shop is recruiting to fill one (1) Plumber, who will: Keep logbook documenting job by work order. Write materials list for job. Insure delivery of materials and equipment. Install and maintain all plumbing systems, drainage, vent lines, gas piping, standpipe lines, waste lines, soil lines, all piping for hot and cold-water lines, sprinkler lines, pumps and pump lines, heating systems, air conditioning systems and all plumbing fixtures and toilet room accessories. Work from blueprints and performs work in accordance to blueprints and instructions from immediate supervisor and Supervisor of Mechanics. Alert architects/engineers of field conditions. Test gas and water lines. Ensure repairs are in compliance with New York City Building Code regulations. Keeps current in regulations. Ensure that standards are met. Document work by completing appropriate computer Work Sheet attesting to skill performed, time spend and location of building. Computer Work Sheets are inputted into the FIMS System and are used as a control on productivity and overtime usage. Maintain the product library to ensure up-to-date materials, samples, and product literature. Hold and Maintain Required Certificate (G-60), (F-60) for use in 'Torch Operations'. Qualifications (1) Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a plumber acquired within the last ten years; or (2) Not less than three years of full-time satisfactory experience described in '1' above plus sufficient full-time experience as a plumber's helper or apprentice, or training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade school, technical school or vocational high school, to make up the equivalent of five years of acceptable plumber experience. The apprenticeship must be recognized by the New York State Department of Labor, the U.S. Department of Labor or any apprenticeship council which is recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor. The schooling must be approved by a state's Department of Education or comparable agency. Each year of helper or apprentice experience, or approved schooling is equivalent to six months of satisfactory plumber experience, up to a maximum of two years of satisfactory experience. Driver License Requirement: You must possess a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York at the time of appointment. If you have moving violations, license suspension or an accident record, you may be disqualified. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
