Global Adjacency Growth Director - JR2421471 DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: Director of Adjacency Growth PPG Industries Pittsburgh Pennsylvania The Director of Adjacency Growth is responsible for leading the newly formed growth platforms within the Corporate S&T function. This role will report to the Global Technical Director - Corporate S&T and will be functionally reporting into the Director of Corporate Strategy. The dedicated global business development and technical managers will all report into this role. The role is responsible for identifying, developing and executing the portfolio of market/technology platforms with the goal to create new, sustainable, and profitable revenue streams for PPG, leveraging its core competencies. This role strongly relies upon the ability to repurpose PPG technologies, brands and channels, into new market verticals, creating new focused market segments for PPG's strategic business units. The role should also identify trends in the market that could identify longer-term, strategic innovation opportunities to feed into the early-stage pipeline of the development portfolio (although executing on these would belong to the other teams in Corporate R&D). The functions of Corp R&D, finance and project management will heavily support this role. The Director of Adjacency Growth acts globally, across a wide array of in-house technologies to establish non-obvious connections into new end-uses. This will require rigorous market mapping, needs based segmentation and defining the 'where to play' and how to win parameters. After such analyses, the focus on alpha customer development will be critical towards the creation of a robust opportunity pipeline that aims to (in)validate assumptions around technical feasibility and market adoption. This role will act as a coach and mentor to a team of business development, associate business development and technical associates, dedicated to the common goal or delivering organic growth in new spaces. The role will also act as the key interlocutor between the front-end growth platform teams and the respective business unit(s) that will own the ultimate onboarding of new customers. Key Responsibilities Maintain a portfolio of adjacencies with high-growth potential, refreshing the portfolio of target technologies and markets as appropriate (adding new areas or retiring areas where growth is expected to be underperforming). Working with additional front-end pipeline leaders in Corporate R&D (such as the Applied Research leader and Fellows), identify and feed into the Corporate R&D ideation process additional opportunities for more extensive development with a longer-term timeline horizon for sales expectation. This should include the need to identify disruptive or transformational new development opportunities. Build and proactively manage high-performance platform teams w/ aligned consciousness to deliver organic growth. Lead up to 8 adjacent growth platform teams, operating concurrently in diverse technology and market arenas. Within two years, build an active pipeline of 6-8 alpha customers engagement in prioritized segments (per growth platform). Manage active customer development pipelines across all time horizons, with a cumulative value of >$1B (de-risked). Unwavering communication and alignment across relevant facets of the PPG enterprise (businesses and functions) to build awareness and support coalitions. Responsibility for driving and maintaining robust intellectual property portfolio in strategic segments. Identification of gaps in existing technologies and development and prioritization of potential projects to close said gaps. Work closely with Applied Research function to identify new opportunities to establish market/technology platforms Maintain global vision to serve emerging market opportunities within PPGs footprint. Qualifications 10+ years of a proven track record working within a multi-n tional industrial B2B environment to deliver organic growth. Demonstrated strong organizational, interpersonal, & decision-making skills Professional and positive approach, detail oriented, self-motivated, team player and ability to work on one's own initiative. Excellent communicator with ability to influence and persuade across all of the organization. Prior record of identifying and/or prioritizing new market opportunities and organizing resources to support and win new business with demonstrated impactful sales levels. Strong business acumen.
