Refugee Volunteer Coordinator Job Details Level Experienced Job Location 87 North Clinton Ave - Rochester, NY Position Type Full Time Education Level High School Diploma or GED Salary Range $21.25 - $21.25 Hourly Travel Percentage Over 50% Job Shift Days w/occasional evenings Job Category Family Services Description General Description The Volunteer Coordinator supports the work of the Refugee, Immigration, and Employment Services (RIES) Department as a critical resettlement team member by providing additional assistance to the individual/family to support a successful transition to their new community. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for performing effective volunteer management strategies in addition to cultural orientation sessions for newly arrived refugees based on language needs. The coordinator will also assist the Housing Team with organizing household set- ups by scheduling volunteers and if needed setting up the house with mandated supplies. The Volunteer Coordinator will conduct regular assessments of the departments and refugees' need for volunteers. The coordinator will work under the direction of the Program Manager of the Refugee Reception and Placement Program providing an outreach and advocacy function to community and faith-based organizations to promote volunteer opportunities specifically to the RIES Department. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Works collaboratively with the Agency's Volunteer and Donations Coordinator to implement volunteer policies and track volunteers in the refugee programs. Works in collaboration with the Housing Team to schedule volunteers to set up housing for new arrivals. When necessary, assist the Housing Team with supervising and setting up housing for new arrivals. Recruits, tracks and oversees the placement of volunteers placed in the RIES Department. Provides orientation and training to volunteers interested in volunteering in the resettlement program using an established volunteer training curriculum. Utilizes marketing tools such as outreach programs, e-mails, social media, and volunteer databases to identify potential volunteers. Participates in the interviewing and onboarding of volunteers and placing them in different roles based on their interests and department's need. Collects volunteer information on availability, and skills, and maintains an up-to-date database. Prioritizes onboarding those able to support the Program with transportation support, budgeting, bill paying, employment mentorship, and English tutoring support. Collaborates with the Reception and Placement (R&P) Program Manager and department Case Managers to ensure their needs are met and help address any issues that arise. Provides volunteers to support Job Counselors providing guidance and instruction about computer literacy and online job search to refugee clients. Keeps new and existing volunteers informed about the department, the agency and needed volunteer opportunities. Communicates frequently with volunteers to ensure they are satisfied and well-placed Tracks, maintains, and updates volunteer time and activities using the tracking document (RF20-B) and for quarterly reports. Supports and facilitates volunteer recognition activities. Serves as a back- up to the Cultural Orientation Coordinator by conducting cultural orientation classes for newly arrived refugees when needed. Attends weekly staff meetings. Participates with identified program staff in outreach community activities serving as an information sharer, and advocate for the refugee population. Is aware of and supports the agency's mission, vision, and strategic plan. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Qualifications Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience Experience: Experience working with volunteers, refugees, and local service providers preferred. Other: Ability to speak English and at least one additional language is also preferred. Ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and experience.
