Historic Hudson Valley seeks a seasoned scenic carpenter to join its event production team. The successful candidate will be physically fit, able to lift/carry 50 lbs. This is a part-time position based in Croton on Hudson, New York, with regular travel to central Long Island during the months of September - November. Some evening, weekend, and holiday-season hours at special events are required. Primary Responsibility: Assist in the fabrication of scenic and themed elements for Historic Hudson Valley's public events. Principal Duties: Work as directed to cut, shape and build different sized elements, and to erect or assemble pieces, such as flats and plinths. Assist in the painting or finishing of the built elements. Work from blueprints, sketches, oral or written instructions. Develop and/or follow cut lists. Use a variety of tools, processes (ripping, chopping, nailing, gluing), materials (MDO, lumber, light stringer), and equipment in completing assigned projects. Tools may include, but are not limited to table saw, router, drill press, nail gun, hand and power tools. Participate in the ongoing inventory of shop supplies, tracking quantities of sheet material, fasteners and other necessary consumable materials. Assist in maintaining the safety and efficiency of all shop operations. Participate in the maintenance and repair of shop, tools and site facilities, as requested. Participate in the transportation, installation, strike and disposal of scenery, including loading and unloading trucks. May include limited travel to other sites in NY area. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities 2-3 years demonstrated carpentry experience, preferably in theatrical, outdoor, and/or special event environments Must be able to follow directions with limited supervision Demonstrate a willingness to maintain high standards for a quality, safe, and supportive work environment A clear driving license and incident-free record, plus experience driving a cargo van and landscape gator All terrain forklift certification a plus Proficient in MS Word and Excel Work Conditions Site specific work, outdoors and in warehouse Exposure to changing weather conditions Will include weekend, evening and holiday assignments Daily physical labor Work on uneven terrain Possibility of travel to other HHV locations Physical Requirements Must be able to walk or stand on level, inclined and unpaved surfaces for extended periods Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. Must be able to crouch, crawl, stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, lift in any direction for sustained periods of time Must be able to grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders Must be able to sustain movement/motion of the wrists, hands and/or fingers Candidates of diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
