Job Description:The teacher will provide essential academic instruction, as well as develop, implement, and supervise appropriate program-related activities, in an effort to help students develop and demonstrate the necessary skills, knowledge, and attitudes.Minimum Qualifications:Valid teacher certificate in field issued by Maryland State Department of Education or eligible for teacher certificate to be issued by the Maryland State Department of EducationExcellent written and verbal skillsOutstanding organizational and interpersonal skills, including, but not limited to, the ability to interact successfully with diverse stakeholders (i.e., students, staff, administration, parents, general public, community agencies, etc.)Proficiency in a variety of technology and applicationsSuccessful management of confidential information and materialsHistory of initiative, discretion, leadership, and independent judgmentDemonstrated understanding of and attention to detail, especially as it relates to student safety and well-beingHistory of professionalism and strong work ethicAbility to work independently and as a team playerAbility to serve as a positive role model for students, staff, and other stakeholdersAbility to maintain emotional control while addressing stressful situationsAbility to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs, balance, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, bend, push, and pullAbility to lift and transport heavy to moderately heavy objects averaging 40-60 lbs.Dexterity of hands and fingers to use mouse, keyboard, other appropriate technology, and instructional manipulativesRegular and predictable attendanceAbility to perform the essential functions of the job either with or without reasonable accommodationsPreferred Qualifications:Advanced Professional Certificate issued by the Maryland State Department of EducationMasters Degree, or higher, in applicable field from an accredited college or universityMinimum three (3) years of teachingPrefer dual certification in another academic area(s) including Mathematics issued by the Maryland State Department of Education.Duties and Responsibilities:The following duties and responsibilities are intended only as examples. The omission of a specific duty or responsibility does not exclude it from the position if the work is a similar, related, or logical assignment.The teacher will:Prepare lessons, assignments, and instructional materials.Establish clear goals and learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs, curriculum framework, and knowledge of human growth and development.Prepare, administer, and correct assessments and record results.Select and use a wide range of appropriate instructional strategies to present subject matter to students.Evaluate student progress using appropriate assessment techniques.Implement appropriate class management strategies and techniques to ensure an orderly classroom environment conducive to high levels of learning.Take all appropriate safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.Create a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.Counsel pupils when academic and behavioral problems arise.Confer with parents and students regarding progress of assigned students and arrange and participate in teacher-parent or teacher-student conferences, as necessary.Serve on special committees, as necessary.Maintain accurate and complete records as required by the school, applicable programs and agencies, law, Board Policy, and Administrative Procedure.Account for and order classroom and program equipment and supplies, as necessary.Attend and actively participate in staff/faculty meetings and appropriate job-related professional development.Improve skill and knowledge base in subject matter, current trends, research, methodology, technology, multicultural content, problem-solving strategies, and interdisciplinary connections.Plan nd supervise purposeful assignments for substitutes and volunteers, as necessary.Contribute to the short-term and long-term successes of students, staff, school, and the system in general.Use data to drive instructional practice and plan instruction to meet the individual needs of students.Maintain confidentiality at all times.Engage in life-long learning of professional and technical knowledge by attending appropriate workshops, reviewing professional publications and websites, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.Present courteous and professional demeanor at all times.Demonstrate proficiency, flexibility, self-motivation, accountability and ownership, and positive demeanor.Perform other duties as assigned.
