Grinder Operator Tonawanda, NY ( Job Type Full-time Description Summary:A Grinder Operator is responsible for operating grinding machines to shape, sharpen, or smooth precision parts. They set up, operate and maintain these machines while ensuring they are safe to use and in compliance with established safety standards and company policies. After grinding, the grinder operator inspects the work to ensure they meet specifications. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Operate and maintain grinder machinery from blueprints. Determine grinding speeds, feed rates, holding fixtures, and grinding wheels to be used. Remove metal by the application of abrasives which are bonded to form a rotating wheel. Work with Manufacturing Engineer on program changes to the machine, when needed. Perform Quality check on parts for accuracy according to blueprints. Determine product specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, and number of parts to be ground. Identify product defects and work with QC team. Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures. Maintain a professional, clean and safe work area. Set up tools and machinery for the project Follow all safety procedures and company policies Requirements Competencies Read and interpret charts, drawings, and blueprints. Spatial Relations, Mechanical Aptitude, Teamwork, and collaboration. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Able to use measuring equipment such as Calipers, Micrometers, Indicators, etc. Must be able to follow directions and perform work accurately and thoroughly Ability to use thinking and reasoning to solve a problem Ability to interpret, edit, and program efficiently, when required Machinist tools required High School Diploma or GED Grinder Operator experience required Physical Job / Work Environment Lift up to 40 pounds, additional with team lift Machine shop Use of hearing protection, eye protection and safety shoes required. Hearing and eye protection provided. Safety shoes covered through reimbursement process.
