Apportions servings. Performs related duties and other duties as assigned. Handles and prepares food in accordance with sanitary regulations. Prepares food that is palatable and appetizing in appearance. Must meet meal schedules. Avoids food waste. Is mindful and knowledgeable of proper equipment care and operation. Qualifications 1. Education: Ability to read, speak, write and follow oral and written directions 2. Experience: Experience as a cook in a hotel, restaurant, school, or hospital required. Experience in cooking and serving in a Continuing Care Facility is preferred 3. Requirement: Must have physical examination and TB testing as required Responsible to Food Service Supervisor Dress Code Must be neat and well groomed at all times Position Expectations Prepares foodstuffs for cooking. Peels, washes, trims and cuts fruit and vegetables. Washes, cuts, bones and trims meat, fish, fowl and cuts them into individual portions as required Prepares food according to recipes, mixing ingredients and adding condiments on basis of personal judgment and experience Plans cooking schedule to have food ready on time Prepares salads. Estimates food needs and requisitions supplies Prepares desserts, pastries, breads and cakes. Checks daily sanitation checklist for documentation of completion and inspects areas for compliance Must be able to cook variety of foods in large quantities and be familiar with seasoning required and cooking time involved Must have knowledge of cooking characteristics of various cuts of meat and know names and contents of various types of dishes Must be able to make simple estimates relative to quantities of food required Willingness to work for the best interests of the resident and the facility Ability to supervise and work cooperatively with others Keep refrigerator clean and defrosted Considerable initiative and judgment involved in setting up meals, seasoning food, estimating food requirements Utilizing leftovers and presenting food in attractive and palatable manner Works under general supervision Follows standard recipes and menus
