HR Specialist Senior - West Orange, NJReq #:0000163888 Category:Professional / Management Status:Full-Time Shift:Day Facility:RWJBarnabas Health Corporate Services Department:Employee Relations Location: SBC Corporation, 95 Old Short Hills Road, West Orange, NJ 07052 Job Overview: The Senior Employee Relations Specialist is a member of a Center of Expertise (CoE) at RWJBarnabas Health, the largest academic healthcare system in New Jersey. As a key member of an Employee Relations Center of Experties, the Senior Employee Relations Specialist provides support and guidance across the system to Human Resource Business Partners, Directors, and CHROs in addressing violations of System policies, performance management challenges, workplace disputes, compliance complaints, EEO issues, and ADA guidance. Serving as a neutral party, the Senior Employee Relations Specialist conducts timely internal investigations; writing clear, concise, accurate written reports of findings and proposed remedial actions. The Senior Employee Relations Specialist coaches and collaborates with site Human Resources in identifying and mitigating employment risks and fostering a culture of respect, inclusion, fairness and equity. They also support the accurate recording, analysis and reporting of data and increasing the understanding of employees and leaders through training sessions and educational materials. The position requires the ability to operate in the gray as well as superior attention to detail, communication, creativity, critical thinking, empathy, facilitation, mediation, objectivity and organizational skills. The Senior Employee Relations Specialist also provides support and direction to the Employee Relations Specialists as well as providing feedback to the Director and Vice President on performance, training needs and CoE operations. Qualifications: Required: BA/BS in a related field required Seven (7) plus years of general Human Resources experience; Five (5) years directly managing complex employee relations issues, internal investigations, and writing investigatory reports Proven proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Word Proven proficiency in Employee Relations/Human Resources software e.g. HR Acuity, PeopleSoft, preferred Experience in preparing educational materials and delivering high quality, effective presentations to large and small audiences Travel within the region required Preferred: PHR, SPHR or related, preferred Essential Job Functions Identification of CJR, MSSP, HRRP, and other patients attributed to a value-based contract upon admission: CJR patients are identified through the Ortho Service Line daily via an Excel list that is provided to the Episode Coordinator via a Shared Drive (patient tracking tool) MSSP and other value-based patients (Non/CJR patients) are identified through the Acute Admit program in Epic HRRP lives are identified through the HRRP program in Epic Documentation of patient data and information in Epic Healthy Planet for CJR, MSSP, HRRP, and all value-based contracts patients. Specific documentation focuses on care at the time of discharge within Epic: what happened, where they went, both level and name of the facility, if applicable Engagement with the Care Management Director and Physician Advisors Identify units with the highest volume of VPC patients and discuss care planning, in real-time, with individual patients on the daily census Daily touch base with Unit Case Management to facilitate appropriate following site of care Actively communicates with discharge planners about patients with Post-Acute Care facility needs Communication with Post-Acute Coordinators on patients going to facilities Communication to Population Health Nurse care manager and VNA on patients going home with or without Home Health Receive a risk stratification tool and Value-Based Care criteria to focus and prioritize efforts. Conduct follow-up phone calls after the patient has been discharged from an acute care setting to home to screen patients for safe discharge and escalate any clinical issues as needed for clinical interventions. Reports directly to the centralized value-based operations care management team, ensuring strong alignment and continuity of care for patients and avoiding any overlapping outreach. Leads complex or sensitive investigations, particularly for executives and providers Collaborates with Employee Relations CoE team to ensure consistency and compliance as it relates to regulatory requirements, related policies and procedures, and best practices Conducts timely, thoughtful, thorough investigations; identifies policies, documents, media, etc. to be reviewed and analyzed; identifies complainants/participants/subject-matter experts/witnesses and schedules/conducts interviews Prepares investigatory reports; findings/recommendations Triages cases/complaints according to risk/urgency Assists ER CoE Leadership with all reduction in force data collection, analysis and follow-ups Delivers expertise, consultation, guidance and coaching to HR Business Partners, Directors, and CHROs throughout the health care system on best practices, laws, policies and regulations Works closely with the ER CoE Data Analyst, in the preparation of routine, periodic, and ad hoc, reports, as required Identifies workplace trends and collaborates with the affiliated Human Resources Department to address Partners with senior leadership and/or internal or outside employment counsel as required Maintains confidentiality throughout the process and in handling documentation Delivers presentations, conducts workshops and prepares educational materials to increase the understanding of employees and stakeholders Participates on designated System committee/work groups Remains current with applicable laws, regulations and/or standards Federal, State and Local Other duties as required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge and understanding of Federal and State employment laws e.g. ADA/ADAAA, ADEA, Civil Rights Act of 1964 & 1991, Equal Pay Act, FMLA, GINA, NJCEPA, NJFLA and NJLAD Knowledge and understanding of HIPAA and related privacy laws and regulations Strong written and oral communication skills Ability to interact and relate to individuals of diverse backgrounds Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Proven ability to operate in the gray Other Duties: Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
