Data Scientist I The data scientist will play a critical role in executing qualitative research methods to support multiple complex research and quality improvement projects. This position requires expertise in qualitative research methods, including in-depth interviews, focus groups, free-listing and pile-sorting, participant observation, participatory mapping, and photo voice. Key responsibilities include recruiting participants, conducting interviews and focus groups, assisting in the development of codebooks for qualitative data analysis, performing coding and analysis, and reporting findings with a focus on crafting actionable recommendations to improve policies and programs. This role involves creating detailed reports and presentations for key stakeholders, delivering presentations at professional conferences, and writing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. The data scientist will also ensure compliance with human subjects and IRB protections, adhering to the University of Pittsburgh's personnel policies and standards. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful research projects and influence policy and program improvements through rigorous qualitative research and analysis. Job Summary Assists in the execution of research objectives, data collection, and data management. Performs routine procedures, statistical analysis, scientific analysis, and reporting. Integrates data and data sets, performs descriptive and exploratory analysis, and creates routine reports and analysis reporting tools. Utilizes statistical software and adheres to all protocols. Essential Functions Superb qualitative research skills are necessary. Additionally, the incumbent must exhibit excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills, work independently and in collaboration with multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed research teams, coordinate study functions, assist with the screening, recruitment, and enrollment of study participants, assist in the development of data collection guides and protocols, conduct interviews and/or focus groups, manage qualitative data, including the de-identification process, prepare files for import into qualitative management software, arrange transcription services, participate in qualitative coding across multiple types of data sources, perform qualitative data analysis, interpret analysis results, create reporting and presentations for stakeholders, and ensure compliance with human subjects and IRB protections. Travel Requirements: Willingness to travel to different sites throughout the extended Pittsburgh metropolitan area and has reliable transportation. Physical Effort Moderate physical effort required. May be required to stand/move for several hours at a time. May be required to move objects up to 50 pounds with or without assistance of equipment.
