Be a part of aworld-class academichealthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as a Senior Histocompatibility Technologist in theTransplant Laboratory department. Here you will directly support the UCM Transplant Institute and you willperform testing for both patient and potential transplant donors to support both solid and bone marrow transplant program at UCMC and partnership with Advocate. Operatingwithin UChicago Medicine's Department of Pathology, we provide reference laboratory testing to various related and unrelated health care entities, managed care organizations and non-affiliated hospitals, outpatient clinics and private physicians' offices. We offer a full range of diagnostic services. This department is Transplant Laboratory. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.Routinely performs a wide range of clinical analyses in all sections of the laboratory by properly utilizing a variety of methodologies and instrumentation. Adheres to and assists in enforcing policies and procedures to assure results of the highest level of quality to physicians and their patients. Provides technical leadership to Histocompatibility technologists. Serves as the primary specialist and is responsible to assist in the development and evaluation of new methodologies and instrumentation. Provides continued support for these new procedures after implementation into routine diagnostic practice.Essential Job FunctionsReceives specimens submitted to laboratory and evaluates for acceptabilityPrepares and maintains adequate stocks of reagents, standards, control materials and other supplies required for the performance of testing at assigned workstationsPerforms procedures designated under CLIA 88 standards as either moderate or high complexity testing and is competent on all procedures in this laboratory including those related to safety and equipment /instrumentsAnalyzes all test and quality control results for errors, inconsistencies and deviations prior to reporting results and troubleshoots to resolve issuesPrepares patient reports as assigned by senior managementAssists in establishing and maintaining continual compliance with policies, procedures, and record keeping necessary to meet the standards of accrediting or regulatory agenciesProvides specialized support in the development, evaluation and implementation of new clinical laboratory procedures, equipment and processesProvides continued technical support after clinical implementationLeads and/or participates in process improvements and other quality functionsServes as a technical resource to answer questions and troubleshoot issuesAttends training sessions, seminars and workshops to maintain and enhance necessary clinical laboratory science skillsAssists in training new employees, students, pathology residents, othersPerforms other duties as requested by senior managementRequired QualificationsMust satisfy CLIA 88 qualification requirements for testing personnel performing high complexity testingBachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science or related field from an accredited college or universityAt least three years prior work experience required for certified individuals with practical clinical laboratory experience or a minimum of five years of pertinent clinical laboratory work experience for non-certified individualsKnowledge and ability to use laboratory/hospital information systemsKnowledge and ability to use automated and conventional laboratory equipment. Knowledge or training in southern blot and other molecular biology protocolsAbility to interact in a professional manner with individuals at all levelsAbility to stand, stretch and bend for majority of time worked; ability to lift 30 pounds; exceptional organizational skills; attention to detail mandatory; ability to work in stressful situationsPreferred QualificationsCertification or eligibility as Certified Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT) through the American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ABHI) with Certification or eligibility as Medical Technologist (MT), or specialist (S) through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent Position DetailsJob Type/FTE: Registry (0.10 FTE)Shift: Various Days, 11:00 am-7:30 pm (M-F), less than 20 hours a weekWork Location: Hyde ParkUnit/Department: Transplant LabCBA Code: Non-UnionWe’ve been at the forefront of medicine since 1899.
