This position is in charge of operating and maintaining furnaces. Interpret and respond to the needs of the equipment. Perform skilled maintenance, set-up and troubleshooting functions as required.Essential Functions:Follow standard manufacturing and operating proceduresUnderstand the basic 'high vacuum ' and furnace technologiesPerform pre-operative checks prior to and during pump down cycle. Use pre-pump and startup checklistSet up and operate the furnace as directed for melting to include (where applicable to specific furnace):loading and unloading particulate material and/or electrodespumping down furnace and operate vacuum systemssetting beam programsoperating furnace controls and data logging instrumentationmelting and castingcooling, unloading, identifying and weighing ingotstake samplesOperate furnace / Melt ChairUnderstand basic chemistry specifications and interpret furnace-casting conditionsMaintain operating records and logsInterpret video monitors, gauges, meters, etc. while operating the furnaceMaintain material and maintenance needed listsPerform pumping speed and rate of rise tests to determine condition of vacuum systemClean out furnaces and crucibles during maintenance cycles and replace damaged components. Change molds, hearths, shields, and feed devicesOperate leak detectors and determine vacuum integrity.Maintain the furnace - perform preventative maintenance such as change filters, replace or change parts, change oil, check fluids.Perform maintenance required ensuring good operating condition of furnace and auxiliary equipment such as electrical, electronic, vacuum, hydraulic, pneumatic and cooling systemsPerform mechanical skill functions such as flame cut, arc weld, silver solder, and soft solderCorrectly uses material handling equipment such as forklifts and cranesUse various hand and power tools as directed including but not limited to: wrench, drills, grinders, sawsSupport other departments as needed per production demands.Must be able to wear a respirator.Education & Experience:High school diploma/GED required; trade school or additional training preferred. Strong mechanical aptitude. Mechanical assembly experience highly preferred Ability to work with heavy rigging, piping, weld and torch cut.
