SUNY Ulster Adjunct Instructor- COM 131 Digital StorytellingPart-timeApplication Deadline: Open Until FilledPriority Screening: October 9, 2024 at 4PM EST Position Summary:SUNY Ulster County Community College, a two-year branch of the State University of New York located ninety miles north of New York City in the Catskill Mountains, is currently accepting applications for a Adjunct Instructor for Digital Storytelling (COM 131).The Media & Performing Arts Department at SUNY Ulster is seeking motivated candidates with a strong Digital Storytelling and Media education and background, with community college teaching experience preferred. Skills related: Digital Storytelling, Video Content Creation, Media & Society, Journalism, Mass Media, writing for Newsletters, Blogs, Podcasts. Applicants should be able to instruct the course in person on the Stone Ridge campus. SUNY Ulster is also establishing a pool for future teaching assignments.The Digital Storytelling Instructor will be responsible for the teaching, production and practice of engaging digital media through the use of advanced software and camera equipment. This role requires a deep understanding of storytelling techniques, proficiency in multimedia tools, and hands-on experience with camera operations.Under the general supervision of the Program Coordinator, the adjunct instructor will provide instruction, lectures and assignments relating to Digital Storytelling in accordance with course descriptions, outlines, class schedules, and the Governing Board policy; evaluate progress of students concerning educational matters, and perform other instructional related duties as assigned. Candidates should meet the minimum job requirements as specified below and be willing to teach in a variety of formats (classroom, online, hybrid). Candidates who are currently working in the field are highly desirable Duties and Responsibilities:A commitment to meet during each scheduled class session and to teach or conduct learning exercises for the entire time period.To provide each student, and the academic department, with a Course Outline derived from the official course syllabus at the beginning of the course. The outline will include contact information, topics covered, and information about how the student will be assessed as per departmental guidelines.Accurately keep required class records on attendance and grading and submit when ply with all institutional and departmental policies, procedures and deadlines.Give careful attention to all departmental and administrative communications by checking SUNY Ulster email frequently. Minimum Qualifications:Experience: Proven experience in digital storytelling, content creation, and multimedia production. A portfolio demonstrating previous work is highly desirable.Education: Bachelor's degree in Film, Media Studies, Communications, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent experience will be considered.Teaching: Strong interest in teaching, mentoring, and working with community college studentsTechnical Skills: Proficiency with camera equipment and editing software. Strong understanding of lighting, sound, and shot composition. Troubleshoot technical issues related to camera equipment and software. Maintain and manage equipment inventory, ensuring all gear is in working order.Storytelling & Content Creation: teach the development and production of high-quality digital content including videos, photos, and multimedia presentations.Camera Operation: proficiency with various camera equipment, including DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, and other relevant gear. Software Proficiency: proficiency in industry-standard software for editing and post-production, including Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, etc.), Final Cut Pro, or similar tools.Creativity: Strong creative vision and ability to translate ideas into engaging digital content for the classroom.Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail with a keen eye for quality and accuracy in all aspects of content munication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative anizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.Trend Awareness: is updated on the latest trends in digital media, storytelling techniques, and emerging technologies.
