Required* New York State Teaching Assistant CertificationPurpose of Your PositionPerform non-instructional classroom duties as assigned by the principal under the general supervision of certified special education teacher. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or is an essential function of the position.Understands and promotes Elizabeth Seton Children’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure application with organizational policies and procedures.Assist the special education teacher in implementing IEP and IFSP goals for each student in assigned classroom as detailed in the weekly lesson plan.Act in the capacity of a substitute teacher, in the absence of a classroom teacher, as per New York State Education Department regulationsCollaborate with classroom team in designing lesson plan activities based on knowledge of children with special needs and child developmentWork with individual and/or small groups of students on learning goals during classroom activities as directed by the teacher and /or relates service therapistsAssist teacher in maintaining accurate classroom documentation (student attendance and health checks, observational record keeping for IEP/IFSP goal tracking, classroom housekeeping task, etc.)Transport students to and from school; making sure they are seated securely and have all necessary adapted equipment in working orderWork collaboratively with classroom team to maintain an organized and safe learning environment (being aware of classroom activities and location of children at all times; anticipating and responding to individual needs of all children; ensure all equipment in working order; sanitizing toys and other equipment according to Coleman policy)Carry out standards for customer service; quality improvement; professional development; environmental, safety and infection control practices; confidentiality, corporate compliance and all other John A. Coleman policies and procedures; attend all mandatory in-services to ensure regulatory compliance and best practices in working with students and their familiesCollaborate with colleagues and leadership team in creating and implementing a school wide Professional Development PlanPerform other tasks to support the operations of the school as assigned by School Administration *Required* New York State Teaching Assistant Certification Education Requirements: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent Required; Bachelor’s Degree preferredA Valid New York State Teacher Assistant Certification RequiredExperience with children and/or with specialEmployee Requirements:Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluentlyMust meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agenciesMust meet the general health requirements set fourth by the policies of this School which includes a medical and physical examinationMust be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of fifty (50) poundsPerform tasks that may involve exposure to the children’s blood/body fluidsMust be able to assist in the evacuation of children, if necessaryWorking Conditions:Will work in a well-lighted and ventilated areaWill be subject to frequent interruptionsMay be asked to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessaryHourly Rate:$24.08/Hr.
