This Senior Chemist would be tasked with leading high-level projects working with various stakeholders to drive business results. This position will be responsible for the formulating, making, and testing of paint prototypes. They will also be leading the design and execution of experiments, leveraging knowledge of networks inside and outside of Commercialization, and ensuring the on-time completion of projects following our Stage Gate process. This Senior Chemist will also be responsible for providing regular updates to upper-level management, and Marketing teams, and eventually mentoring and training other members of the team on formulation knowledge, and Commercialization processes. This position will work directly on the Interior NPD (New Product Development) team, but will work closely, and on projects within the Interior NPD Platform team as well. Through work with the Platform team, this person will be responsible to develop aligned base structures and ensure adequate performance, and colorant compatibility within PSG interior product segment platforms. This position will also coordinate with CBG (Consumer Brands Group) teams to ensure platform formulas and designs are compatible with customer's colorant systems and can be leveraged to Brands products within interior product segments. Appropriate selection of raw materials, paint making and testing, data analysis and application of paint formulation/knowledge to product specifications and performance requirements as defined by the PSG Marketing team. Frequent and direct interaction with Marketing, Product Technology, Manufacturing, and various support groups to ensure the successful commercialization of products. Leading high visibility projects to Commercialize products for Sherwin-Williams Stores Leading a project team of multiple technical employees including Chemists, and technicians. Accurate documentation and presentation of lab results and technical information Develop in depth technical and business knowledge regarding interior paint products. Independently plan, schedule, execute work, analyze results and make recommendations based on those results. Identify potential Continuous Improvement opportunities and lead necessary actions for implementation. Partner with NPD Platform Team, and CBG Teams to develop products that align with the overall Platform strategy and fulfil future focused product alignment. Other Duties as Assigned BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status). Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field. Must have 5 years' experience in paint formulation. Strong data analysis and interpretation. Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills. Proven problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Math and statistics skills. Project leadership/project management experience. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's in Chemistry Experience in a Commercialization R&D Function Experience formulating Waterborne Paint Demonstrated flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances. High level of initiative and leadership ability Design for Six Sigma Green Belt trained or certified. Experience using Minitab, Business Objects and DOE software. Experience / familiarity with Navigator and Commercialization Stage Gate Process Experience interacting with Marketing on design targets and product specifications. Ability to interact effectively with various levels of technical experience. Excellent organization and planning skills.
