Work Schedule Standard (Mon-Fri) Environmental Conditions Able to lift 40 lbs. without assistance, Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Safety Standards, Fluctuating Temps hot/cold, Loud Noises (Equipment/Machinery), Some degree of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs etc.), Strong Odors (chemical, lubricants, biological products etc.), Will work with hazardous/toxic materials Job Description Location/Division Specific Information This opportunity is located at our Oakwood Village, OH facility near Cleveland within the Chemical Analysis Division (CAD). Our facility produces a variety of radiation detection instruments. How Will You Make an Impact? As a Manufacturing Scientist, you will execute and improve all process related to the production of thermoluminescent dosimetry (TLD) materials. You will balance bench science activities with process development and improvement. A Day in the Life: Daily operation of manufacturing work cells used to produce TLD material, including crystal growth, batch chemical operations, and finishing processes Perform materials performance quality assurance testing Work multi-functionally to ensure internal and external customers have quality material delivered on time Drive process improvement projects for safety, quality, and cost reductions Design and conduct chemical and physical experiments for the purpose of improving upon existing materials and processes Education: Bachelor's degree in Material's Science, Engineering or Physical Sciences is required Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing facility, 3-5 years preferred Experimental Design and Data Analysis Crystal Growth Experience Useful Experience with the operation of industrial equipment: hydraulic presses, furnaces and machining equipment Knowledge of chemical safety, SDS programs, and PPE equipment Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Outstanding organizational skills with ability to multi-task and balance sophisticated and routine work activities with strong attention to detail Effective written and oral communication skills Knowledge and experience in experimental design and statistical analysis Proven ability to improve manufacturing processes and product quality Initiate and implement appropriate experiments to address manufacturing process deviations Proficient in MS Excel, Word, Outlook and ERP systems Physical Requirements / Work Environment Ability to lift/push/pull up to 40 pounds Ability to work in a laboratory environment Ability to see minute/ small-scale detail required What We Offer Compensation Competitive Pay Annual performance-based bonus Annual merit performance-based increase Excellent Benefits Benefits & Total Rewards Thermo Fisher Scientific Medical, Dental, & Vision benefits-effective Day 1 Paid Time Off & Designated Paid Holidays Retirement Savings Plan Tuition Reimbursement Employee Referral Bonus Career Advancement Opportunities Thermo Fisher Scientific is an EEO/Affirmative Action Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, disability or any other legally protected status.
