Hours: 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM (or until all children have completed their homework)Reports to: Director of Family and Youth ServicesJob Overview:The Homework Assistance Teacher plays a vital role in our after-school program by providing academic support and guidance to students from Kindergarten through 6th grade. This position involves working collaboratively with another teacher to ensure that all students complete their homework in a supportive and structured environment.Key Responsibilities: Homework Assistance: Help students with their homework assignments, providing explanations and guidance as needed to facilitate understanding and completion. Individualized Support: Offer tailored support to students based on their grade level and individual needs, ensuring that each child receives appropriate help to complete their assignments. Time Management: Ensure that students remain focused and manage their time effectively to complete their homework within the allotted period. Collaboration: Work closely with the other homework help teacher and counselors to coordinate efforts, share insights, and address any challenges that arise during homework time. Encouragement and Motivation: Create a positive and encouraging atmosphere that motivates students to complete their homework and fosters a love of learning. Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, and program staff regarding homework progress, challenges, and any other relevant information. Behavior Management: Implement strategies to manage student behavior and ensure a respectful and productive learning environment. Safety and Supervision: Ensure the safety and well-being of all students during the program hours, providing supervision and support as needed. Minimum Qualifications: Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred. Relevant coursework or experience in elementary education is highly desirable. Experience: Previous experience working with elementary-aged children, preferably in an educational or tutoring setting. Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, patience, and the ability to work collaboratively with others. Knowledge: Familiarity with elementary school curricula and common academic challenges faced by students in Kindergarten through 6th grade.
