Use standard operating procedures as a guide for performing duties. Performs routine security and safety patrol duties. Remain alert to emergency situations and provide first-line response, emergency management, and/or referral if required. Uphold institutional rules and regulations. All campus Safety Officers will complete rotating shifts in the Dispatch Center. The Dispatcher Center is the 24/7 Communications and Resource Center for the Connecticut College Department of Campus Safety for any services, incidents, or emergencies that occur on campus. This is a sedentary position that requires the ability to multi-task; monitor multiple cameras/ phone lines, respond to and inform officers via radio, and follow verbal orders from the Shift Supervisor. Must maintain a professional and courteous demeanor. General Duties and Responsibilities â— Maintain a high level of professionalism, to include honesty and integrity â— Be courteous and polite in all interaction with the community and perform all duties impartially â— Act as Shift Supervisor as necessary (see Campus Safety Shift Supervisor Job Description) â— Enforce all College rules and regulations â— Respond appropriately to emergency calls, conduct thorough preliminary investigations, assess situations, and assist or obtain necessary support services â— Prepare detailed reports of all investigations, complaints and services performed â— Provide physical security of all college buildings, leased buildings, and property â— Transport sick or injured students to the College Student Health Services when necessary â— Secure entrances to the college at appropriate times â— Recognize and report all unsafe conditions; correct problem or report to responsible personnel â— Identify and remove any unauthorized person or vehicles from college property â— Inspect and maintain patrol car and emergency equipment â— Issue tickets for parking and moving violations â— Perform other duties as assigned or as instructed â— Provide access to Residence Halls and Academic Buildings when necessary â— Displays a positive customer service attitude when dealing with the entire campus community. Dispatch Responsibilities: â— Track all activities of each shift. â— Monitor all (radios, phones, intercoms, emergency phones and fire alarm systems) communications (Campus Safety, Facilities, and local police/fire/ems). â— Handle all Communications for the department, by telephone and radio from the campus community and the public. â— Dispatch appropriate Campus Safety Officers to investigate all types' incidents, emergencies and calls for service. â— Assign and coordinate with Campus Safety Officers in the field. Relays instructions and questions officers in the field. â— Coordinate and make appropriate notifications to the local police, fire and medical services. â— Handle telephone and radio calls about possible maintenance, custodial, and grounds issues and dispatch the appropriate services. â— Monitor Fire, Intrusion, and Trouble Alarms from the Simplex System and dispatch officers to investigate. â— Monitor Surveillance Systems and notify officers of possible problems or criminal activity. â— Keep, assign and coordinate records and enter all shift activities into the report system. â— Conduct records checks for Campus Safety Officers in the field and relay information. â— Monitor Door Access System and access authorized persons. â— Check Emergency Phones once per shift and make appropriate referrals when maintenance is needed. â— Radio Checks of all shift personnel at the beginning and middle of the shifts. â— Make notifications to the proper persons in regards to incidents on campus. â— Make notifications and assist with scheduling officers/dispatchers when needed. â— Maintain the pass down log and notify the Shift Supervisor. â— Data entry of Daily Patrol Sheets/Activity logs. â— Responsible for key control and maintaining the key log. â— Track and Maintain Visitor logs. â— Submit Physical Plant work orders of issues or problems identified during your shift. â— Ability to differentiate basic alarm colors e.g. Red, Yellow and Green. â— Successfully complete an on-line a certified Public Safety Communications Training program. Answer questions from the public and the campus community at the Campus Safety Office. Other duties as assigned. Additional duties, Swing Shift - Thursday - Saturday nights: Provide high uniform profile and officer presence where and when known or spontaneous congregation of students engaged in social activities occur Remain vigilant to student activities to provide quick and proactive response to student issues as they arise. Education and Skills High School Diploma or equivalent plus 2-5 years related work experience Excellent oral and interpersonal skills Able to write clear, concise reports Valid Connecticut driver's license No prior criminal record Able to pass physical exam, knowledge test and psychological profile High integrity needed to handle confidential information Connecticut Guard CardMust possess high integrity to handle confidential information. Possess a valid driver's license. No prior criminal record. Must be able to wear a required uniform. Ability to maintain control in emergency situations. Must be able to lift, push and pull 50 lbs.
