About the Role: Position: Special Education Teacher at Sheldon Academy Location: Rutland, VT 05701 (Relocation required) Pay: $23.25 per hour Hours: Work 8-hour day shifts (Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm) for a 10-month position, following the school calendar for seasonal breaks and federal holidays. Key Responsibilities: Provide direct instruction, in-class support for learning and social skills, and therapeutic support. Assess student abilities and monitor general education and IEP goal achievement, with minimal tri-annual evaluation responsibilities. Implement, edit, and consult on IEP plans; share case management responsibilities and prepare IEP progress reports. Collaborate with general educators to prepare report cards and attend student meetings as scheduled. Plan and implement curriculum based on Vermont State Standards, maintain organized materials and student records, and provide consultation on therapeutic and behavior support methods. Qualifications: B.S. or B.A. in Education or Special Education (Master's preferred) with Vermont Special Education Licensure K-12 or eligibility. 3 years of teaching experience with behaviorally/emotionally disturbed children. Valid Vermont drivers license and strong communication, organizational, and basic computer skills. Proficient in special education law, IEPs, and assessments. Deep understanding of learning disabilities, emotional-behavioral issues, and skilled in relationship management, emergency response, adaptability, and team collaboration.
