Together, we keep getting better - advancing our mission to transform healthcare and serve as a leader of positive changeThe Medical Coding Trainer is responsible for training all new and existing coders and developing educational resources, covering coding guidance for Outpatient across Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) network. Analyzes internal data metrics and arranges educational sessions with coders, vendors and departments aimed at quality of coding and documentation improvements. Understands department workflows and organizational strategy. Identifies opportunities and creates an education plan tailored to the end user. Work assignments are varied and frequently require interpretation and independent determination of the appropriate courses of action.This is a remote position.A day in the life of a Medical Coding Trainerat Hackensack Meridian Health includes:Identify educational needs based on internal metrics. Create an education plan using all approved resources. Responsible for delivering education sessions within the coder education program, including the remote onboarding program and ongoing coder education. Develop and maintain coding educational tools/resources. Conduct the education for coders and departments on accurate medical record documentation and International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-10-Clinical Modification (CM) coding guidelines. Make sure codes are assigned correctly and properly sequenced per government and insurance regulations. Comply with medical coding guidelines and policies. Follow up and clarify any information that is not clear to other team members. Expert coding workflow, coding technology and health information management and billing systems. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:Bachelor's degree in HIM, healthcare, or other related field.Minimum of 3+ years of experience in hospital trauma 1 coding. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms. Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities. Licenses and Certifications Required:An approved American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) coding credential.If you feel that the above description speaks directly to your strengths and capabilities, then please apply today!
