Responsible for directing all the work center activities to insure shop order completion. Provide guidance and training to filler/packers; packaging operators and/or compounding operators. Coordinate activities in all work centers and monitors critical operations. Responsible for recognizing, correcting when possible, and reporting all operational variations. Work closely with the Quality Department and performs actual QC tests as required. Responsible for the compounding and mixing of a variety of bulk products, including hazardous raw materials, according to specific formulations. Must be able to: set up, operate and maintain a variety of complex equipment and machinery. Fill containers, weigh and visually inspect finished product for quality. Must be capable of exercising judgment, trouble shoot and make informed decisions. May act as Manufacturing Supervisor in the absence of the regular supervisor. Additionally, will be the backup for the Packaging Operator Lead as appropriate. Interfaces with other departments and may represent Manufacturing at various meetings.Job Model: On-SiteAll fully remote positions will require you to travel on site 2-4 times per month depending upon business needs at your own expense.Hybrid positions will require employees to work both on-site and remote each week under a schedule that has been determined and agreed upon by you and your manager.On-Site positions will require employees to work on-site for each of their scheduled shifts.A typical day at work would include:Responsible for knowledge of company business system. Responsible to appropriately handle hazardous materials; to process production batches using batch card and bill of materials; to properly execute shop orders; to understand inventory inquiries and packaging requirements.Performs manufacturing transactions as required. Understands production and inventory control concepts. Directs cycle count activities. Rotates raw material stock.Consults shop order to determine product to be mixed or compounded, quantity, size and type of containers required for the compounding or mixing operation as well as the filling and packaging work centers.Consults with Quality to ensure batch card information accuracy, which includes materials, weights and percentages.Responsible to visually inspects raw materials as well as perform in-process Quality inspections, i.e., use grind-gauge, viscometer, etc.Understands and can use the required equipment for each compounded/mixed product. Sets up and operates a variety of complex machinery, i.e., high-speed dissolvers, lightening mixers, planetary mixers. Trains personnel on the proper use of machines/equipment and on safety measures when mixing, handling, storing, and disposing of products.Monitors and ensures that housekeeping and safety practices and procedures are followed.Ensures that quality procedures are implemented and performed according to Quality standards.Coordinates with the packaging work center to insure appropriate storage and/or shipping containers are available and prepared.Operates forklift trucks, filling machines, drum lifts, compressors, and hot ovens.Responsible for maintenance and cleanliness of all machines, tools, tanks and work areas according to strict safety procedures.Coordinates work flow of all work centers to insure that the product is produced in accordance with the established standards.Oversees in-house printing of manufacturing labels, such as bar codes and zebra printed labels.Assists supervisor with employee relations responsibilities, i.e., discipline, interviewing candidates, time cards, overtime scheduling. Acts on behalf of the supervisor in his or her absence. Support completion of department goals as defined by management regarding efficiency and productivity improvements.Works independently under general direction.Directs the activities of others. Provides training to various non-exempt manufacturing employees.Acts on behalf of the supervisor in his/her absence.Must work well with others and possess strong interpersonal skills.Able to manage the work flow under pressure.Must be fully trained in hazardous material handling, enforce and train personnel on safety equipment and procedures.Perform maintenance and operate complex equipment.Thorough understanding and knowledge of all Technical Products manufacturing operations, and the ability to train others to perform various tasks within the department.Understand and practice waste disposal reduction issues. Be trained in spill response and safety equipment.Ability to trouble shoot and make in-process quality control or manufacturing adjustmentsExperience you need coming into this job:3-5 years related experience required. At least two years experience in chemical processing environment preferred. Production/Manufacturing experience required. Supervisory experience a plus.Ability to wear a respirator.Manual dexterity required.Ability to do heavy lifting up to approx. 70 pounds and handle drums weighing 400-700 pounds utilizing the prescribed material handling equipment such as a Drum dolly or fork truck. Must be willing to ask for help when needed. Must be able to operate fork-trucks, drum lifts and other equipment to assist in lifting of up to 6000 pounds.Strong math skills and ability to use measuring gauges and scales.Strong communication/interpersonal skills.Interacts well with other managers, internal customers, peers.Must comprehend written and verbal instructions and be able to exercise judgment and discretion.Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity required.Physical Requirements:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
