The assistant director will support the work of the Corporate Affairs department, which administers the Corporate Program and is the Council’s primary point of contact with the private sector. The Corporate Program raises over $6 million through its membership program, which offers a forum for executives from approximately 100 leading global businesses to explore issues at the nexus of business and foreign policy.Reporting to and working closely with the Managing Director, Corporate Member Relations, the assistant director will ensure the highest level of corporate member interaction. Qualified candidates will have related experience that requires exceptional attention todetail, the ability to prioritize, sound judgment, and the highest level of discretion.This position is based in CFR’s New York office on a hybrid basis. CFR currently defines hybrid status as working at least three days a week onsite, with Tuesdays and Thursdays considered institutional anchor days where all staff are required to be onsite.Manage own portfolio of corporate member and prospect companies, serving as their primary point of contact with the Council and having responsibility for outreach and follow-up actions, stewardship, retention, and involvementCoordinate and track corporate member and prospect relationships, including stewardship opportunities, retention and relationship strategies, compiling information on member companies, and running regular reportsSupport outreach by the executive office and the Corporate Program’s senior staff, by tracking and scheduling stewardship meetings, preparing backgrounders and meeting materials, drafting correspondence to primary contacts and senior executives, and managing follow-up actionsCoordinate with the Corporate Programming team on content and speakers relevant to corporate member companiesCoordinate corporate member participation in NY and DC for special events, and meeting opportunities with Studies, the National Program, Foreign Affairs, and other departments as necessaryExecute various research projects for the Corporate Affairs department, including but not limited to researching and preparing briefs; research and remain current on relevant topics and regions for member companies and prospective member companiesExtensive use of the membership database, including updating contact information and profiles, tracking relevant interactions, writing and executing queries, generating database reports, and tracking audience development for upcoming eventsProvide occasional coverage for the email and phone line for the Corporate Program, serving as an initial point of contact for executives from corporate member companiesWork closely with all Corporate team members and other departments in support of overall departmental and institutional priorities and provide assistance across departmental lines upon requestStaff New York Corporate Program and CFR-wide events, including early morning breakfasts and evening meetings outside of regular business hours as neededDegree in a related field with an interest in business, economics, and international relations with high academic achievement4+ years of related work experience, preferably at a non-profit organization or in the private sectorExperience in fundraising, relationship management, and corporate stewardshipExperience working with high-level executives preferredExcellent communication skills, including exceptional writing, proofreading, and editing skills, both across departmental lines and with high-profile and senior executivesExcellent organizational skills and ability to work within deadlinesDetail oriented, self-starter that can work effectively, both independently and on a teamProficiency in Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Dynamics database management experience strongly preferred, and the aptitude to learn and utilize different technologiesFlexible schedule with willingness to work early morning and evening eventsPay Range$68,000 to $75,000 per yearPay commensurate with experience and educationFounded in 1921, the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is a leading nonprofit membership organization, research center, and publisher, with headquarters in New York, an office in Washington, DC, and programs nationwide.
