The Tactical Opportunities Manager is an integral part of Latham’s Global Finance team and will be responsible for identifying and analyzing industry shifts and market dislocations, while working closely with the Managing Director and Directors of the team to identify market events that will impact the firm and its clients. This role will be located in our New Yorkoffice. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence.About the Tactical Opportunities TeamThe candidate will be an integral part of the Tactical Opportunities team, a unique concept for the legal industry, which blends financial and market investment research with internal firm strategy to identify new business opportunities for the Firm and its clients. Team members have prior experience in investment banking, equity research, management consulting and the legal industry, at industry-leading institutions. This blend of skillsets enables the team to analyse a range of asset classes, sectors and jurisdictions. With this, they provide strategic direction to the Firm on positioning into market shifts. The team also actively presents targeted market intelligence to current and prospective clients, ranging from investment funds (including PE, Special Situations & Private Credit fund managers), Corporates and State Enterprises. The team also engages with advisory intermediaries to discuss relevant trends and situations. The team works seamlessly across jurisdictions, practices and industry sectors. About the Tactical Opportunities Manager RoleThe Tactical Opportunities Manager takes the lead in identifying and analyzing industry shifts and market dislocations with a particular focus on the US market. They engage with internal stakeholders and external clients of the firm to deliver the team’s output. The majority of the team is based in London. The manager role in New York will expand the physical presence of the team with the support of analysts. While this position is located in New York, there will be travel to other Latham global offices and clients’ offices. Additionally, with the majority of the Tactical Opportunities team based in London, we expect regular travel to London to nurture a strong team spirit and efficient working practices and we are looking for a person with strong autonomy and initiative.In return, we will provide you with multiple opportunities to push your thinking and develop your skillset across new industries and regions, with exposure to internal and external stakeholders across the Latham & Watkins network, whilst contributing to the success of the Firm. We offer a competitive salary as well as a generous total compensation package with bonuses awarded in recognition of both individual and firm performance. For the right candidate, we will look to sponsor a work visa if needed.Other key responsibilities include:Brainstorming ideas as part of the team, actively contributing insight on market themes and commercial opportunities, and building on others’ proposalsDesigning and executing quantitative and qualitative analysis on broad market themes down to single-name analysis across different industries and productsLeading some of the larger projects the team takes on, organizing resourcing and timely delivery, and keeping team management informed of key developmentsHelping partners across the firm build their practice and relationships with clients, guiding them through market opportunities in advance of client presentations, as well as contributing to business plans, pitching, competitive analysis, and client profilesPresenting findings, investment opportunities, and recommendations to a range of global investor and corporate clients, as well as partners and management to help inform strategic directions for the firmWe’d love to hear from you if you:Demonstrate excellent quantitative and qualitative analysis skills, with exemplary attention to detailExhibit strong presentation skills and the ability to demonstrate gravitas in front of senior management, partners, and clientsDisplay strong autonomy and decisiveness, as well as excellent adaptabilityAnd have:A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent; an MBA, preferablyA minimum of four (4) years of experience in the finance, investment, consulting, advisory, or legal industrySuccessful candidates will not only be provided with an outstanding career opportunity and welcoming environment, but will also be provided with a generous total compensation package with bonuses awarded in recognition of both individual and firm performance.
