The Assistant General Counsel is responsible for providing legal advice and legal services through the office of General Counsel at Nationwide Children's Hospital for the benefit of Nationwide Children's Hospital (NCH) and its subsidiaries and related companies. Provides legal review, analysis, and advice with respect to the legal implications of Hospital policies, procedures, processes, and decisions, with a particular focus on compliance with federal and state health care laws and regulations. Builds creative, practical, and effective solutions to issues throughout NCH.Reviews, negotiates, and assists in the development of Hospital contracts under the direction of the Deputy General Counsel and other attorneys, with a particular focus on arrangements with physicians and other health care providers.Provides advice and support to Hospital staff members on matters related to legal compliance and risk management.Provides support to and partners with the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Integrity and Compliance Program in reviewing and developing processes and procedures.Completes, on a timely basis, projects as assigned by the Deputy General Counsel and other attorneys.Participates in Hospital committees as deemed appropriate, attends annual Hospital and departmental fire/safety and infection control training, and maintains current knowledge of safety procedures within the Hospital and department.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREDEducation: Juris Doctorate and licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio, required.Experience: 4-6 years engaged in the practice of law, as well as an interest in and aptitude for health care law.MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Sitting - ConstantlyTalking on phone/in person - FrequentlyWalking - FrequentlyFlexing/extending of neck - FrequentlyReaching above shoulder - FrequentlyRepetitive hand/arm use - FrequentlyStanding/walking - OccasionallyLifting/carrying up to 20 lbs - OccasionallyHand use: grasping, gripping, turning - ConstantlyComputer skills - ConstantlyProblem solving skills - ConstantlyDecision making skills - ConstantlyInterpreting data skills - ConstantlyThe above list of duties is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by individuals assigned to this classification.
