The Medical Laboratory Technician Instructor teaches credit courses within the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree program and the Phlebotomy Technician One-Year Technical Diploma. Starting in Spring 2025, instruction will be provided from the Central Campus in Janesville, WI, utilizing flexible delivery formats that meet the educational needs of students and regional employers in Rock and Green Counties. This position reports directly to the Administrative Chair - Physical Therapist Assistant & Health Occupations. Duties include teaching courses that prepare a student for careers as a medical laboratory technician or phlebotomist. Additional responsibilities include serving as the Medical Laboratory Technician Program Director as outlined in the accreditation standards of the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).This position will be open until filled, with a first review date of September 30, 2024. After this date, the recruitment may close without further notice. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.Provide instruction for Medical Laboratory Technician and Phlebotomy Technician courses as assigned. Collaborate with employers to develop and update or revise course curriculum as needed to maintain program currency and relevance.Engage in ongoing student learning assessment in the program to determine effectiveness of instruction and curriculum. Use data to measure program outcomes related to student persistence, retention, completion rate, course success, and to design improvement strategies based on the evidence.Remain current on instructional best practices to support a variety of learning styles and utilize academic instructional technologies to improve student success across all program delivery modalities.Outreach to regional healthcare organizations and high school partners to recruit students for the Medical Laboratory Technician program. Collaborate with employers to assist in job placement for graduates.Manage classrooms and oversee the lab to ensure a safe and productive learning environment. Responsible for lab inventory, ordering of supplies, tools and equipment, and the maintenance of required lab equipment.Maintain accurate student records and reports as requested by administrative offices and accreditation partners.Identify students needing assistance and refer students to Student Services. Collaborate with Student Services and the Learning Resources staff to help students adjust to the learning environment.Prepare and update course syllabi using BTC guidelines for each course taught and work cooperatively with members of other departments and programs in coordinating courses.Meet weekly office hours and other duties required to meet student, employer, and college needs.Create a classroom environment that is respectful of diversity and demonstrate a commitment to multiculturalism. Convene Medical Laboratory Advisory Committee meetings. Participate in department and collegewide faculty meetings.Work cooperatively with library staff in the selection of reference materials and coordination of library reference work for maximum utilization of library and other resources.Participate in staff development activities and serve on college improvement teams and college wide committees as appropriate.Assist department chair and dean in other duties as assigned.Meet Wisconsin Technical College System professional development requirements through the Faculty Quality Assurance System.Program Director ResponsibilitiesResponsible for the organization, administration, instruction, evaluation, continuous quality improvement, curriculum planning and development, directing other program faculty/staff, and general effectiveness of the program.Participate in the budget preparation process.Engage in a minimum of 36 hours of documented continuing professional development every 3 years.Responsible for maintaining NAACLS (National Accreditation Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science) accreditation of the program; including adherence to NAACLS accreditation standards, maintaining annual reports, outcomes projects in preparation for self-study and accreditation site visit requirements.Instructor Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biological Science, Biochemistry, or Chemistry. Master’s Degree preferred.Two (2) years or 4,000 hours of Medical Laboratory Technician, or Medical Technologist, or Medical Laboratory Scientist experience.Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Medical Laboratory Technologist, or Medical Laboratory Technician.Program Director QualificationsMaster’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biological Science, Biochemistry, or Chemistry, or related field.Three (3) years of teaching experience.Knowledge of education methods and administration as well as current NAACLS accreditation procedures and certification procedures.Blackhawk Technical College does not offer H-1B or other work authorization visa sponsorship for this position. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout the employment term.
