Summary: The Educator collaborates with management and staff to plan, develop, and implement educational programming for employees in the department. Serves as key resource in the orientation and continuing education of staff. Education Requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field required. May accept Associate's degree and three (3) or more years of experience in lieu of educational requirements, but must obtain Bachelor's degree within twenty-four (24) months of hire. Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of related experience. Licensure/Certification Requirement: TN state licensure as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Current BLS/ACLS certification. Key Job Responsibilities: t Trains, educates, and establishes professional competence for respiratory care practitioners (RCP) staff on all shifts. Provides respiratory care education for nursing staff during their initial orientation. t Coordinates with management and staff in accordance with established protocols, policies and procedures. t Prepares and maintains required records, reports and files for administrative and compliance purposes. t Evaluates the effectiveness of care/services and makes adjustments/recommendations, as needed. t Demonstrates clinical knowledge by serving as clinical resources to staff and consultant to other departments. t Participates in the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of delegation protocols, policies, procedures, and care guidelines. t Identifies and establishes clinical learning opportunities for students, staff, and professionals in the various healthcare disciplines. t Plans and conducts classes, activities or individual sessions to meet identified learning needs; develops curriculum, teaching materials, lesson plans and evaluation tools. t Serves as liaison between Administration, Nursing, Physicians, and department personnel, as appropriate, in daily clinical operations. Performs all staff Respiratory Care Practitioner duties, as needed, to ensure adequate coverage and quality patient care. t Performs all other duties as assigned or requested. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: t Working knowledge of respiratory equipment and ability to critically evaluate applications, including demonstrated proficiency in blood gas analyses, pulmonary mechanics/equipment. t In-depth knowledge of respiratory physiology, disease process, treatment options and therapies, potential complications, family/support group dynamics, and associated quality of life concerns. t Ability to build collaborative relationships with other healthcare providers (physicians, nurses, etc.) and community resources/agencies to coordinate efforts and provide the highest quality of patient care. t Possesses proficient written/verbal communications, interpersonal, and teaching skills to explain medical procedures or sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences. t Ability to speak in classroom setting. Efficient in Microsoft office and able to conduct presentations. t Ability to endure frequent walking and transporting respiratory equipment; exposure to infectious agents. Supervision Provided by this Job: t There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this role. May give guidance and instruction to staff. Physical Demands/Conditions: t Prolonged standing and walking; lifting, turning patients and equipment; repeated bending, squatting and stooping; exposure to infectious agents. Visual acuity is needed to assess color changes, to verify accuracy of written materials, and to administer and accurately prepare medications. Heavy Work - Exerting up to 150 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 75 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 30 pounds of force constantly to move objects. (May be further defined as with or without assistance. )
