Bruker OST manufactures highly specialized, engineered superconducting materials as a Tier 1 supplier to the healthcare industry. The Director of Technology will apply knowledge and expertise to prioritize and lead new superconductor product development efforts, supplier development projects, new product introductions, and escalated troubleshooting and root cause and corrective action activities. As a senior executive, the Director of Technology will also contribute to strategy development, financial models, and planning, and addressing other requirements of the business as needed.StrategicPrioritize and lead technology and product development programs in low temperature superconductor Nb-Ti and Nb3Sn systems.Interface with customers and suppliers to build relationships and resolve technical issues related to the manufacturing, cost, and use of our products.Support other business functions as required to meet customer requirements and business objectives.Maintain and manage to departmental budget. Develop technical staff and manage performance and succession planning.Seek and obtain external funding in support of our new product initiatives.TacticalCreation and management of short-, mid-, and long-term goals and objectivesConduct business review meetings with key stakeholders to assess risk, review future strategies, and identify potential new product, cost down, and improvement opportunities.Establish and maintain close and effective working relationships with other managers within BEST.Establish and maintain relationships with key customers, suppliers, and collaborators.StrategicDevelopment of new technologies or products to meet stakeholder expectations, primarily as measured by market share and financial measures such as gross margin and cost of quality.IP generation, including patent applications.Customer satisfaction that our product development path is in line with their needs, as measured by external funding and technical collaborations.Evidence of strategic planning and implementation.TacticalPracticality and efficacy of proposals.Commonality of processes and components.Collaboration with key persons to ensure clarity of the specifications and expectations of the company.Ph.D. in materials science, physics, or a related discipline is required, as is experience in applied superconductivity.A proven record of new technology and product development with experience, including publications in peer-reviewed technical literature.A candidate with extensive superconductor development and manufacturing experience in a lean manufacturing environment would be ideal. Given that this is a senior role, at least 10 years of technical and/or operational management experience would be expected. (This would be typical, although this is dependant on the scope of previous jobs and the track record of the candidate.)Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to distil information and data from multiple sources, to create a focus on root cause resolution of complex problems.Ability to develop and manage long term and high-level plans, but also to work with pace and in detail in a hands-on manner as needed to resolve pressing technical and tactical business issues.Facilitator skills e.g., leading cross functional teams / problem solving and diagnostic skills etc. Development and performance management through teams and individuals, particularly within a matrixed organization.Willingness to travel globally, occasionally, and sometimes frequently as needs ariseWillingness to engage with coworkers at all organizational levels and be willing and able to work “hands on” from time to time and as necessary to develop deep understanding of our products and processes to help inform development, improvement, and troubleshooting activities.Bruker is a federal contractor and subject to Executive Order 14042.
