USD $16.00 - USD $17.50 /Hr.The Campus Safety Officer is responsible for providing campus safety services to the university community, which includes enforcing university regulations, vehicle and traffic laws, local, state and federal laws. Providing emergency response on campus and protecting life and property within the Clarkson community. In addition, the Campus Safety Officer/ Staff engage in outreach and communication efforts to women and/or underrepresented student groups on campus around issues of alcohol consumption, sexual misconduct, sexual harassment and bias-related conduct.General Purpose:Participate in a variety of safety and security activities on the Clarkson University campuses; conduct foot and vehicular patrols of the campuses, secure buildings, respond to emergencies, assist in traffic control and parking enforcement, confront violations of University Regulations, assist external law enforcement and/or public service agencies as required in campus related incidents. Prepare written investigative reports of all incidents on campus.Position Responsibilities:Conduct foot, bicycle and vehicular security patrolAct as the primary Campus Safety & Security telephone contact via the cell phone as needed and instructed. Maintain communication channels, utilizing scanners, two-way radio, etc.Provide security service as required to all members of the University community. Provide security and traffic control for special events assignedMaintain current training and certifications in all aspects of security and safety relating to the campus community and as required by lawRespond to all building alarms. Report all fires to the local fire department and fire/smoke alarms to the Physical Plant; be familiar with locations of all pull stations and fire extinguishers. Report all system malfunctions to appropriate on-call personnelAssist in the maintenance of the Access Control SystemConduct building fire drills as required by lawReport building emergencies to appropriate personnel and submit written reports of responseFile Defect Sheets on any hazardous defects or system malfunctionsConfront any person violating, or suspected of violating University regulationsRequest appropriate law enforcement intervention/support as necessaryReport all incidents or offenses to University authorities and advise external law enforcement agencies as requiredComplete official reports on all incidents and offenses in a timely mannerAssist in the promotion of crime prevention and security and safety awareness for the University communityServe as a liaison with HRs/RAs in promoting residence hall safety and securityAdminister CPR, AED and First Aid as requiredProvide medical transport assistance upon requestAssist in campus parking management, enforce parking regulations, issue tickets to illegally parked vehicles on campus and enter written tickets into motor vehicle systemReport road conditions in inclement weather for snow removalAssist in keeping parking lots clear of parked vehicles for snow removalPerform other related duties as assigned by the Office of Campus Safety & SecurityPerformance of above duties require you to be at work on CampusEducation:Minimal Qualifications:High School Diploma requiredMust be willing to get certified by the State of New York as a Security Guard (8 Hour Pre- Assignment Course for Security Guards) within 30 days of hireCertified in CPR, AED and First AidNew York State driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the UniversityPreferred Qualifications:Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferredPolice and/or Security Officer Experience preferredLaw enforcement experience is helpfulExperience:Minimal Experience:Police and/ or Security Officer Experience preferredPreferred Experience:Police and/ or Security Officer Experience preferredEssential Skills:Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility and customer service orientedAbility to successfully conduct security patrols without direct supervisionSkill in providing protection services to individuals on campusAbility to react calmly and effectively in emergency situationsMust have capacity to work independentlyAbility to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnelCommunicate effectively, at times under stressful circumstancesAbility to communicate effectively, both orally and in writingAbility to understand, follow, and enforce safety codes, regulations, and proceduresAbility to complete routine paperworkDemonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusionEducation:The physical demands characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
