Heavy Equipment Apprentice will work alongside a knowledgeable Casella Waste Heavy Equipment Technician to learn and further develop skills. This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems on a variety of landfill equipment. The incumbent will assist other technicians with preventative and corrective maintenance on fleet vehicles, and equipment including gas and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, air brakes, forklifts, and trailers.Utilizes a pressure washer to clean mechanical parts and components of yellow iron equipment.Disassembles and greases mechanical parts and components of yellow iron equipment.Locates, uses and understands Cat equipment manuals and technical information.Uses knowledge of hydraulic fluidsto make repairs.Assists more experienced technicians with projects that include rebuilding and installing components from equipment and engines.Performs quality preventative maintenance.Completes oil changes, takes oils samples and 500 hours of service.Uses power and air tools to disassemble and reassemble parts and components.Communicates details of technical problems to supervisors.Keeps personal knowledge up to date with developments in tooling, technologies and systems.Uses safe working practices always.Participates in training and other learning opportunities to expand knowledge of the company, products, sales and services and performs any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and/or abide by our core values.The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, be at least 18 years of age, have the ability to work overtime when needed, have the physical ability to list 50lbs. on a frequent basis, and be legally eligible to work in the US. A demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a collaborative environment, excellent listening and problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing are required.
