Entity: Corporate Department: Communications Staff Location: Lancaster General Hospital- 555 N Duke St Hours: 8hr Days (Hybrid/Remote) Mostly remote position, with travel to Penn Medicine locations for media and in-person meetings. On-site responsibilities in Lancaster might be more frequent as part of the candidate's regular work, whereas the Philadelphia travel is roughly every other month and planned in advance. Summary : The Regional Communications Manager serves as an integral part of the Penn Medicine Communications Department, serving as both a media relations professional and a writer for internal and external publications. They will work to cover key programmatic areas, highlight Penn Medicine thought leaders and interesting staff and patient stories to capture the attention of and drive engagement with internal audiences, the press, and community and governmental partners and constituents. Responsibilities : Working as part of the Penn Medicine Communications department and reporting to the Associate Director for Community and Regional Communications, the Communications Manager will serve as day-to-day external communications manager and publications contributor for activities relating to their assigned UPHS entities and programmatic areas. External communications/media relations responsibilities include working with leaders to identify areas of priority, creating materials and generating media placements in regional and national media outlets highlighting Penn Medicine's marquee programs, thought leaders, and topical expertise pertaining to current events and emerging issues in healthcare. Develop and maintain excellent relationships with key institutional leaders and staff and utilize a strong news sense to identify communications priorities and tactics for both internal and external storytelling. Identify, plan and write stories for print and electronic publications to amplify topics of interest to Penn Medicine workforce and drive employee engagement, and identify and execute corresponding media outreach opportunities. Conceptualize and develop visual and graphic concepts, and coordinate with designers, photographers, and social media colleagues to produce polished final products to drive maximum engagement with readers. Serve as part of 'on-call' rotation to manage off-hours media relations issues/needs and provide assistance during emergencies, including on-site staffing as needed at various health system locations. Cultivate relationships with regional and national media outlets to proactively place stories about assigned entities and thematic beat areas, and manage and provide strategy for incoming media requests, including assistance with crisis communications matters. Assist with and contribute to systemwide projects or short-term assignments as needed. Education or Equivalent Experience: Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required) Education Specialization:Communications, Journalism, English or a related area of study And 5+ years Experience in non-profit, educational, or scientific or healthcare writing, strategic communications, and related work (required) Experience in education, science or medical settings (required) We believe that the best care for our patients starts with the best care for our employees.
