These tasks include but are not limited to personnel management, workflow, education and process improvement. Serves as a resource for charging and coding topics and questions. Works with other members of the Medical Education, Clinical teams and members of the Revenue Cycle to ensure accurate and timely coding and charging.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESManages the schedule for the Coding Team including the additional resource allocation based on defined parameters.Directly supervises members of the Coding Team, including coder, chargers and auditors.Demonstrates the ability to train, coach and counsel associates to peak performance.Monitors productivity for the Coding Team and prepares reports and identifies outliers on a timely basis.Understands and facilitates process from coding to bill to ensure timeliness and accuracy of information submitted to bill related to HIM responsibilities.Reconciles additional resources invoices against delivered services.Performs monitoring and auditing functions through data collection and documentation review in accordance with the HIM Compliance Plan and as deemed necessary by the direct or indirect municates audit and other findings timely to appropriate/designated individual.Offers suggestions/topics for Coder educational opportunities.Proposes changes to established policies and procedures related to coding initiatives on an ongoing basis to ensure up to date processes.Ability to read, understand and relay regulatory requirements, guidelines and information to Hospital key personnel in order to ensure compliance with such information.Ability to maintain an effective working relationship and communication with members of HIM and other Hospital teams.Excellent verbal and written communication skills; command of English grammar including sentence structure, punctuation, spelling, etc.Ability to work under pressure, meet aggressive deadlines and make effective decisions.Ability to operate accurately and efficiently general office machines (e.g. computer, calculator, photocopy machine, etc.) that applies to the operation of the coding area in Health Information Management.Ability to access, input and retrieve information from department and hospital computer systems, word processing software and the internet.REQUIRED:High school diploma or GED required.Bachelor's degree in Business, Nursing or Health Administration preferred.Two (2) years minimum experience in the healthcare industry required.Two years operational supervisory experience required.Good interpersonal and communication skills to positively interact with hospital and vendor personnel.Proficient in medical terminology.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Experience and knowledge of Windows-based software required, including but not limited to Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel and Access.PREFERRED:CCS, RHIA or RHIT certification with a minimum of five years coding and related experience preferred.Knowledge of third party payors and intermediaries.Experience working in healthcare revenue cycle.Knowledge of JCAHO, Federal and State regulations regarding medical record review and other related JCAHO standards and government regulations.Extensive knowledge of both Inpatient and Outpatient coding rules and reimbursement guidelines preferred.Proficient skills to collect, organize and analyze data, produce reports and recommend improvements and solutions.
