Coulter School of Engineering at Clarkson University invites applicants to apply for a Professor of Practice teaching-track position focused on biomedical engineering and bioengineering. This individual will play a leadership role in launching Clarkson’s new 4+1 Master’s of Science in Biomedical Engineering program and Clarkson’s long standing Biomedical Engineering minor at the undergraduate level. The applicant will lead the Master’s capstone courses, which will include medical device design incorporating advanced manufacturing principles. This is part of a cluster hire of several positions focused on Advanced Manufacturing.This position will support the advancement of the Solinsky Engineering Leadership Challenge. The Solinsky's $32M financial commitment to the Challenge represents the largest directed gift in the history of Clarkson University and will result in an $80M investment in engineering over its seven-year duration. The Challenge has a focus on advanced manufacturing and investment will include an anticipated significant expansion and renovation of the engineering building into the Solinsky Engineering Center. It also includes a portfolio of Solinsky Challenge advanced manufacturing initiatives such as: curricular and co-curricular innovation; expanding student engagement in manufacturing-related activities; advancing manufacturing research and technology transfer; significantly increasing Clarkson's engagement and partnership with industry; and advancing the reputation and visibility of Clarkson's engineering programs.Solinsky Challenge success metrics include meeting program milestones; better preparing students for careers in advanced manufacturing; significantly increasing the number and effectiveness of the Solinsky Challenge industry- university and government-university partnerships; growing engineering enrollments; and enhancing the reputation of Clarkson Engineering as measured by US News and other rankings.General Purpose:The successful applicant will develop and teach assigned biomedical engineering-related undergraduate andgraduate courses, such as team-based capstone design courses, entrepreneurship, and regulatory compliance, mentor student-project teams, and grow industry-sponsored design projects. The successful applicant will also actively engage in service activities which include, but are not limited to, supporting ABET assessment; providing opportunities for students to visit advanced bio-manufacturing facilities; providing academic and career advising and mentoring to students; and contributing to the development of new courses and curricula.Applications are sought from individuals whose expertise is at the interface of biomedical engineering andmanufacturing, potentially spanning the classical engineering disciplines, such as Mechanical, Chemical, Civil and Electrical engineering. Applicants should have relevant industry experience and be passionate about better preparing engineering graduates to enter the engineering workforce and advancing the economic vitality of the region, state, and nation by regaining US pre-eminence in manufacturing. Candidates must possess the communication and people skills necessary to work with students of all abilities, faculty and staff colleagues, and stakeholders from industry and government.
