The Role of the TeacherJCC teachers play a key role in setting the tone by valuing each child and family as individuals. JCC teachers have the educational qualifications, dispositions, knowledge, dedication to learning, and professional commitment necessary to promote children and their families as they learn and develop. Teachers work together with their teaching team to develop, implement, and evaluate the classroom pedagogy, to providing a quality educational program reflecting the goals and values of the school. The teachers monitor the development and learning of the children and partner with the parents in sharing this information. Teachers also supervise and provide guidance to their co-teachers, substitutes, and classroom volunteers.The Dispositions and Knowledge of the TeacherJCC teachers value and promote children's play, are curious about the child's perspective, understand child guidance in a developmental context, and are alert to the learning process for each child. Teachers model anti-bias practices and cultural sensitivity, ask for help, accept suggestions, offer guidance, and display flexibility in staffing and scheduling in a large school setting. Teachers maintain confidentiality and are diligent about health and safety. Teachers are lifelong learners and take time for regular reflection and self-examination.Key ResponsibilitiesGeneralAttend to children's physical and emotional safetyDevelop relationships with families and colleagues through frequent communication and updatesBe with children joyfully and treat them as competent learners and individualsParticipate in self-evaluation and school evaluation processPedagogyPlan and implement a balanced pedagogy based on observation and reflection and according to the school goals and philosophy.Document children's play and learning, including portfolios, weekly learning stories and bi-weekly hallway or classroom displays.Attend to classroom management, including flow of the day, group dynamics, and conflict negotiations.Support and facilitate children's play indoors and out.Nurture physical, spiritual, emotional, social, and intellectual growth and development of each child.Provide care, protection, consistency, and guidance to the children, including learned strategies provided by supervisors and support munication & CommunityCommunicate regularly with director and supervisors, including all concerns regarding a child's progress by following the agency's protocol for children being identified with learning differences.Monitor growth and development of each child and communicate progress and concerns with parents and director.Maintain a continuing dialogue with families including conferences as scheduled.Attend to daily communication on playground and on your JCC email account.Maintain a continuing dialogue and problem solving with the teaching team.Protect the rights and privacy of children and families by maintaining strict confidentiality.Attend school wide and class events such as picnics, parties, parent meetings, and other special programs, including JCC community wide events.Administrative & ClassroomRead and maintain children's files and portfolios including work samples, anecdotal notes and other documentation.Provide a cheerful, nurturing, healthy, safe and clean classroom environment.Maintain attendance and injury records.Maintain organization and cleanliness of equipment, materials, and classroom.Care for classroom environment and aesthetics, maintain inventory of supplies, and frequent rotation of materials based on children's development and interests.Professional DevelopmentParticipate in lifelong learning by increasing knowledge and abilities in the field of early childhood education through attendance at workshops and courses, reading books, and attending pedagogical meetings.Work towards increasing knowledge of Judaism and related topics.Team with other school educators for professional development in plete at least 12 hours of professional development annually. Minimum Qualifications: QualificationsBachelor's degree, Master's degree or CDA with experience; graduate degree in a child related field preferredPrevious experience teaching toddlers or two-year olds preferredCPR and First Aid certification or willingness to acquireStrong communication skills: oral, reading, writingAbility to relate to young children and adultsWorking knowledge of the growth and development of young children and ability to utilize this information in the classroomUnderstanding Judaic knowledge or willingness to acquire this knowledge through studyAbility to create weekly lesson plans with intentions based upon an emergent curriculum and developmentally appropriate learning goalsPhysical RequirementsAbility to lift and carry up to 25 poundsReaching, stooping, sitting on the floor and bendingSpending time outdoors throughout the school year (in various weather conditions) Salary: $25,000 - $35,000 Agency Information: The JCC of Central NJ's mission is to educate, enrich and empower our community - from generation to generation.
