This role will be instrumental in implementing the safety strategy and driving the safety culture across multiple Rolled Products manufacturing locations in addition to a new $500 million investment project at the East Alton, IL location. The Safety, Health, and Environmental Director will act as role model and lead the safety initiatives from the front-linewithin the Rolled Products business unit and will closely together with the Vice President of Operations, collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders that are transforming the safety culture within the Wieland Group. This role will be responsible for leading a dynamic SHE team and creating the vision to drive the strategic direction of Wieland’s SHE programs and initiatives. Reporting to the Vice President Safety, Health & Environment, the Safety, Health, and Environmental Director will be part of the Global Wieland Safety Leadership Team in a highly visible and key leadership position.The SHE Director willsit at our East Alton, IL location, however, will be required totravel frequently to other Rolled Products locations within North America.The ideal candidate will have the ability to translate strategy to implementation, have the ability to influence safety buy-in, and be an excellent communicator throughout all levels of the organization. Experience in the metals industry is strongly preferred.Safety, Health, and Environmental Director Responsibilities:LeadershipProvide professional SHE advice and support to Rolled Products business unit and site leadership teams, engaging them to secure and strengthen their commitment to safetyProvide appropriate SHE training to directors and managers to ensure that they possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and awareness to enable them to lead and positively influence safety management and behaviors within their area of responsibilityManage site SHE Managers and act as a coach/mentor to ensure they continually develop their knowledge and skills and build their capabilityChair business unit safety meetings to ensure that there is effective communication and collaboration with site SHE Managers and safety teamsPromote, display, encourage and reinforce positive behaviors, in line with Wieland's values and behaviorsRecognize and promote the operational benefits of effective SHE management and provide support to enable the business to meet internal and external demands and expectationsManaging RisksFacilitate and support the implementation of the Global Wieland Safety Strategy, standards, and associated procedures across the Rolled Products business unitImprove the management of SHE risks across the Rolled Products business unit through the development and implementation of standardized SHE procedures which conform to and /or supplement Wieland requirements and local legislationEvaluate any change that negatively impacts upon the business unit’s ability to manage SHE effectively and ensure that SHE risks arising from these changes remain at an acceptable levelPerformance MeasurementDevelop, implement, and maintain monitoring systems to evaluate progress towardthe achievement of SHE objectives and targets; compliance with legislative requirements and the effectiveness of the SHE management system(s)Investigate SHE events to identify the underlying and root causes, support the implementation of corrective actions, and communicate key learning /outcomes across Rolled Products and Wieland GroupAnalyze audit results and accident /incident statistics to identify any common trends and underlying weaknesses in SHE management systemsReview and ImprovementPrepare and communicate accurate SHE management reports to the Rolled Products Management Team and VP Safety, as requiredFacilitate and Chair in regular business unit SHE reviewsActive member of the SHE Leadership Team and provide appropriate feedback to the Rolled Products Management teamDevelop, implement, and maintain a SHE operating plan for the business unit which is aligned to Wieland overall SHE strategy and sets measurable objectives, targets, and actions for the continual improvement of SHE performanceSupport the development of site SHE improvement plans and ensure that plans are aligned to overall group and Rolled Products objectives, targets, and actionsEnsure that any learning from the monitoring and review processes is integrated into the operating /improvement plans and communicated effectively across the business unit, as requiredIdentify and spread SHE best practices across Rolled ProductsSafety, Health, and Environmental Director Qualifications:Master's or Bachelor's degree in occupational safety10+ years of experience in safety management in an industrial environment, experience in the metals industry is strongly preferred7+ years of operation or leadership experience in SHE or equivalent role preferred5 + years of experience working directly with federal, state, and local safety and environmental agenciesStrong leadership and management skills to develop an outstanding teamHigh level of commitment and willingness to travel between different sites within the business unit.Expertise in change management, including deployment of effective training programs and behavioral change initiativesFamiliar with the introduction and implementation of sophisticated safety concepts and toolsProven experience working collaboratively and across functions through strong interpersonal and communication skillsWork with interdisciplinary teams and motivate them to achieve top performanceAbility to influence and build effective working relationships across all levels of the organizationKnowledge and experience of ISO45001 and ISO14001Joining Wieland’s team gives you…Benefits-Starting on Day 1!Including Medical, Dental, Vision, Disability, Life & more!Retirement Savings- 401(k) contribution + match.Work/Life Balance- Paid Vacation & Holidays.Growth Opportunities- We have over 8,000+ employees worldwide and 35+ locations in North America alone.
