SSOE is hiring for a Department Manager to oversee and lead staff members within our Food & Consumer Products (Process Controls) Department. Responsibilities generally include those required to lead and supervise a functional team of professionals in a technical consulting environment.Responsible for acquiring and retaining qualified and competent talent. This includes all employee relations responsibilities: manpower planning/staffing, hiring, development and promotion, coaching, directing, coordinating, disciplining and supervision of department staff.Ensures the technical competency of team members through selective talent acquisition and the support of ongoing professional development actions. Where appropriate, helps to arrange mentoring relationships with senior staff.Responsible for the quality of work performed by staff through ensuring implementation of the company’s quality assurance procedures, e.g. checking. Personally participates in the checking of work product, as necessary. Licensed individuals may be required to seal discipline documents.Develops, organizes and implements discipline and departmental standards, initiatives, recordkeeping, and improvements. Collaborates with other department managers in the same or similar discipline. Responsible for monitoring and achieving annually budgeted Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) or otherwise taking action to make necessary changes / adjustments to meet these performance objectives. Implements strategic initiatives within the department to achieve business objectives of operations unit and corporate business.Participates in business development activities and assists project managers in preparing proposals and making presentations. This involves developing a WBS and the associated labor estimate for the proposed scope of services.Reviews and approves project change orders developed by the staff prior to submitting to the Project Manager for further processing.Responsible for the preparation and monitoring of project work schedules and projected workload forecasts for department members. Ensure that the resource management tool(s) used by the business are kept current through regular and timely updates.Responsible for providing access to tools, software, resources, and reference materials as required for the team to perform the work to meet project requirements.Responsible to document the strengths and weaknesses of department personnel in order to identify professional development needs and prioritize training opportunities. Ensures that staff complete mandatory training which may be communicated by leadership.Develops and implements an annual training program with the assistance of the Learning and Development Department.Responsible for meeting resource utilization targets and department financial goals. This involves the management of salary administration to ensure fair compensation for staff at all levels while still meeting profitability goals as well as work sharing between org units.Travel required to support the duties and responsibilities outlined above. This may involve visiting a client’s offices, manufacturing plant, construction site, or other SSOE offices to meet personally with staffQualifications You’ll Need on Day One:Bachelor or Masters degree in Engineering from an accredited program within the technical discipline is required.A minimum of ten to twelve years of practical working experience is also required.Valid driver's license required. May be waived for international assignments.Prior experience working in the consulting engineering sector is preferred.Prior experience working in the food, beverage, or pharmaceutical sectors is preferred. This includes business development experience and familiarity with sanitary design.Professional Engineering registration is preferred.Salary Range: $125,000-$155,000/year depending on location, education, experience, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, 401K, PTO, & paid holidays.
