Responsibilities PURPOSE The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the efficient maintenance of production machinery and equipment and physical plant in accordance with State, Federal and Company policies and procedures. Supervises on a day-to-day basis, activities of Maintenance Staff, follow up on a work schedules, and completed assignments. The Maintenance Supervisor reports directly to the Maintenance Manager. RESPONSIBILITIES Helps to develop, schedule and control a preventative maintenance program to maintain production machinery and equipment in proper working condition. Plans a continual work schedule to maintain a safe and healthy condition on company property in order to achieve the best working conditions for all employees. Supervises and coordinates the activities of all workers engaged in the maintenance, electrical and mechanical operations and assists in their training where needed. Helps to develop training programs and aids for trouble shooting; inspects jobs in process and at completion to ensure that standards of workmanship and safety are maintained. Ensures proper maintenance of facility machinery and building; directs staffing, training, discipline and recommendation of termination of Maintenance Department personnel; meets with vendors to preview and purchase manufacturing products. Responsible for adhering to and executing the applicable Environmental Health & Safety programs in order to provide a safe and clean workplace for all employees according to Berry, local, state, and federal requirement-regulations. Recommend pay increases or promotions based on employees work performance and progress in gaining job knowledge; conducts performance appraisals. Counsels employees as needed in regards to work performance, attendance, safety or other issues; conducts employee meetings to keep employees informed on goals, company policies/rules and safety; assures employee/ employer relationships are maintained. Maintain accurate timekeeping using Kronos. Attend both Gemba and daily meeting to maintain employee engagement and discussions. Position requires being 'on call' to assist with any maintenance operational needs. Assists in planning a continual work schedule to maintain a safe and healthy condition on Company property in order to achieve the best working conditions for all employees. Qualifications 3 years' experience in maintenance, electrical, or mechanical field. Previous knowledge of machinery uses in polyethylene film manufacturing (preferred) Proficient mathematical skills with ability to figure formulas and complex equations. Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate in English. Knowledgeable concerning mechanical and electrical principles and machining practices. Ability to perform certain tasks such as routinely bending/lifting, kneeling, squatting, climbs/descends stairs from tower areas (50-60) feet, walking production floor for entire shift, and operate in non-climate-controlled facility. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English. SAFETY Adheres to safety policies and procedures in compliance with Berry's guidelines. Visually inspects production area for tripping hazards, equipment safeguards, employee's safety, adherence to policies and maintains a clean work environment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee must be able to keep up with moderate to high-speed production machines (including but not limited to winders, bag machines, printing presses, extruders, blenders, transformers, electrical panels, air conditioning equipment and pumps). Works with high temperature equipment and moving equipment of varying speeds. Manual dexterity required with exposure to arm, wrist and back fatigue. The employee continuously uses their arms, hands and fingers to handle, grasp, hold, grip and squeeze. The employee routinely bends, kneels, squats, pulls and drags, climbs/descends stairs into/from the tower areas 50 to 65 feet in the air. The employee may at times climb vertical OSHA protected ladder 60 feet in the air outside on silo. The employee may lift up to 65 pounds at times and stands approximately 7 hours and routinely walks to and from the production area consulting with maintenance and production staff and offering assistance where needed. The employees routinely steps up 1½ feet and pulls themselves into the seat of a forklift. Be available by pager at all times for plant situations that may arise. WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions on this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to very loud. An essential part of this position is to work in a teamwork environment. The employee is constantly exposed to temperature variances; extreme heat during the Spring and Summer and cold temperatures during the Winter.
