The Innovation and Technology Solutions Attorneyis an integral part of Latham’s Technology & Information Services team.This role will be responsible for serving as a connection point and conduit between the firm’s lawyers, clients, and the Technology & Information Services Department to ensure the firm’s technology systems, tools and services are effectively meeting the needs of our practicing attorneys and our clients,while working with practice group leadership and those directly supporting the practice (e.g., Knowledge Management Lawyers, Practice Development Managers, etc.) to assist in developing technical strategies to improve efficiency and to make recommendations for how to integrate applications and technology solutions into the practice group’s workflow. This role will be located in our New Yorkoffice. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence.The ideal candidate:has experience as a practicing litigator in a law firm and has experience with litigation technology (i.e. eDiscovery technology)is an experienced legaltech and general technology user, with demonstrable examples;is passionate about emerging technologies generally, and excited by the prospect of learning about them and developing expertise in them, including where necessary hands on and deeper technical understanding;possesses, and can evidence, some level of advanced technology or technology adjacent skills, e.g. coding, product management, design thinking, process optimization or similar skills and experiences, ideally applied in their employment; is able to demonstrate examples of where they have innovated a process, product or service, either in their current or former employment, or via activities outside of work; andkeeps abreast of emerging technologies and innovative new offerings - both legal and non-legal - in order to ensure a state-of-the art technology platform is available to and fully exploited by the firm’s lawyers.Other key responsibilities include:Staying abreast of emerging technologies and innovative new offerings, both legal and non-legal, in order to ensure a state-of-the art technology platform is available to and fully exploited by the firm’s lawyersProviding updates and analysis of new technologies and industry trends to firm management and practice group leadershipLooking for opportunities to leverage existing and emerging technologies into specific practices, as applicable, and coordinating pilot and proof of concept programs, including drafting specifications, evaluating software objectively and versus peer or incumbent products, and testing of products and servicesWorking with Technology & Information Services Department management and firm leadership to make recommendations for strategic deployment of efficient processes, technology related policies, software tools, and other technology-assisted solutions for Latham attorneys and clientsCommunicating with third-party vendors in order to foster strong relationships and an ongoing information exchange related to new and existing products and services, while fostering strategic relationships with industry organizations and innovation thought leadersWe’d love to hear from you if you:Display knowledge and experience with a scripting language, e.g. Python, JavaScript etc.Demonstrate knowledge and experience with Front-end technologies, e.g. HTML / CSS Exhibit knowledge and experience with a database language, e.g. SQLAnd have:A JD or an equivalent, and admission to the relevant state barA minimum of four (4) years of experience as a practicing lawyer in a law firm or in a legal operations role Experience in a technology role, preferablyCompletion of an intensive software development/coding bootcamp, preferablyExperience as a practicing litigator in a law firm and with litigation technology (i.e. eDiscovery technology) preferablyExperience in a technology role, preferablySuccessful candidates will not only be provided with an outstanding career opportunity and welcoming environment, but will also be provided with a generous total compensation package with bonuses awarded in recognition of both individual and firm performance.
