NEH Visiting Assistant Professor of Media Studies Disciplinary Area: The Department of Literature, Media, and Writing at Hartwick College invites applications for a full-time, one-semester appointment at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor starting in January 2025, pending final administrative approval. Although we seek candidates with general expertise in contemporary media studies, preference will be given to those with a broad, cultural studies approach. Minimum qualifications include ABD in English, Media Studies, or closely related discipline (PhD preferred), and previous teaching experience at the undergraduate level. Teaching load for this one-semester appointment will be 6-8 credits (2 courses), with specialization preferred in the following areas: technology, surveillance and privacy, information environments and the dynamics of knowledge production, the cultural and political ramifications of algorithmic social media and data mining, and the role of new media as tools of expression and activism for marginalized communities. Additional responsibilities will include organizing a media-focused speaker series or colloquium for students. The successful candidate must be committed to excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching, active engagement in scholarly or creative activities, and working closely with students (both majors and non-majors) in a small college environment.An independent, residential liberal arts college enrolling approximately 1,100 full-time undergraduates, Hartwick embraces the teacher-scholar model, with teaching excellence as the first priority, and seeks to recruit, retain and promote a diverse workforce.
