Overview of Job Function:The Outreach Coordinator works closely with program staff to provide hands-on, patient-focused support related to clinical research efforts at the National institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Patient support efforts will focus on, but are not limited to, underrepresented populations such as low-income individuals, recent immigrants, and racial and ethnic minorities.Essential Functions:Communicate with NIH study coordinators and case managers regarding patients’ needs related to transportation, interpretation, and supportCall patients to remind them of upcoming appointments at NIH Communicate with transportation vendors to facilitate patient appointmentsMeet patients at NIH and escort to their appointmentsServe as patient liaison, interpreter, and translator at NIHOrganize community forums and support groupsUpdate secure database of patient records and study informationEducation and Experience :High school graduate with relevant work experience or bachelor's degree in healthcare, health administration, community outreach, or related field of study3 years previous administrative experience in a medical office, health clinic, or community services agencyExperience in the areas of community work, community outreach, medical interpretation, and/or case management Familiarity with patient scheduling and medical terminologyExperience working with patients living with HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases is a plus.Critical Success Factors:Strong team player with positive attitudeCultural competence and adept understanding of underrepresented minority populations and related barriers to receiving or accepting healthcare servicesFluent bilingual skills - Spanish (required), French and/or Amharic a plusDetail orientedStrong customer focusDemonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacyExceptional organization and time management abilityGood problem solving, decision making, conflict management and resolution skillsProactively recognizes needs and implements effective solutionsOutstanding written and verbal communicationGood driving record and reliable transportation to and from NIHA flexible schedule as neededManagerial Responsibilities: NoneWork Environment: Mostly on-site at the National Institutes of Health. Some weekly remote work as necessary. Availability by phone/text. The standard office equipment for this position is a laptop computer and mobile device (provided).Physical Demands: The essential functions of this require moderate periods of walking, standing, and sitting. Good vision, mental quickness, eye and hand coordination, ability to lift up to 25 pounds.Classification: ExemptReports to: Project DirectorPosition Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a Part-time position with hours that may range from 15-30 hours per week.
