In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for overseeing/managing the Clinical Nutrition program for NYUHC, assuring compliance with the Rules and Regulations of the Medical Board, JCAHO and State regulatory agencies. Maintains appropriate staffing with a skilled team providing quality Nutrition care. Provides direct patient care to Intensive Care Units. Provides optimum nutritional care to patients admitted to an intensive care unit and general medical, surgical or pediatric units through nutrition screening, assessment, support, counseling, metabolic monitoring, and medical team communication. Functions as a resource person to Nutritionists, Assistant Nutritionists, Nutrition students/residents and medical team regarding the nutritional management of patientsJob Responsibilities:Performs other duties as assigned.Assures appropriate staffing with skilled Nutrition professionals. Establishes appropriate staffing patterns to assure quality care. Provides plan to assure continuity of Nutrition services during staffing fluctuations. Attracts and retains skilled Nutrition staff. Provides meetings and educational forums for Nutrition staff. Oversees quality education program for Nutrition Interns.Takes the leadership role for the Diet and Nutrition Committee of the Medical Board, assuring compliance with the Rules and Regulations of the Medical Board. Schedules meetings on a quarterly basis for Diet and Nutrition Committee. Takes and circulates minutes of meeting. Minutes are provided to the Medical Board. Establishes agenda, bringing up relevant topics for review. Sees that committee serves as a forum to address relevant topics. Assures participation of committee members.Stays abreast of current trends, codes and standards, assuring that NYUHC provides State-of-the Art Nutrition care. Reads journals, attends meetings and seminars to stay current. Reviews standards of JCAHO assuring that nutrition services are compliant with these standards. Assures that Nutrition Care Manual and Policy and Procedure Manual reflect current concepts and standards. Assures that Nutrition Education materials are up to date and coordinate with Departmental manuals and standards.Monitors all aspects of Nutrition care and service. Assures coordination of patient menu, patient services with therapeutic policy and standards. Assures that patients are screened within 24 hours of admission. Assures that nutritional assessments, required patient follow up and additional intervention are provided as per policy. Monitors nutritional products for acceptability and cost. Monitors productivity of nutrition staff. Problem solves as needed to ensure and enhance nutritional care.Acts as a liaison for Nutrition services with other members of the healthcare team. Interacts with nursing, physicians and other healthcare professionals to assure optimum nutrition care. Assures that nutrition staff participate as an integral member of the healthcare team. Is responsive to and seeks resolution to issues and concerns. Acts as a nutrition resource for the Medical School including the Medical Students. Prepares and presents relevant materials for departmental QA/QI reports.Maintains open communications with the Senior Director and other members of the food service team. Meets regularly with the senior director to review issues and progress. Attends departmental meetings, assuring interaction and communication between food and nutrition professionals. Adheres to budget and cost reduction goals of the department and medical center.Minimum Qualifications:To qualify you must have a Master's Degree in Nutrition. Minimum of five years experience with Clinical Nutrition management in healthcare facility. Registered Dietitian (RD) approved though the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR-the credentialing Agency for ADA). Effective oral, written communication and interpersonal skills. Required Licenses: Registered DietitianPreferred Qualifications:Minimum of ten years clinical management experience in major medical center. The salary range for the role is $97,589.95 - $162,649.75 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
