The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) is a perioperative nurse who works in collaboration with the surgeon and other healthcare team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The RNFA reports to and is scheduled by Surgical Services Leadership however during the assisting phase and until conclusion of the operative procedure the RNFA performs duties under the direction of the Surgeon. Assist with preoperative assessment and support in collaboration with the robotic surgery team serves as a first assist for Robotic procedures. As needed the RNFA may provide patient care by circulating or scrubbing surgical procedures. During surgical procedures the RNFA does not function concurrently as a Scrub Nurse. The RNFA provides personalized patient care for the preoperative and postoperative phases by using the perioperative nursing process to plan and implement patient care and education. Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays call-backs weeknights weekends and on-call. Agrees to participate as directed in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. Needs to recognize that they have an affirmative duty and responsibility for reporting perceived misconduct including actual or potential violation of laws regulations policies procedures or this organization's standards/code of conduct. The employee shall work well under pressure meet multiple and sometimes competing deadlines. Minimum RequirmentsMinimum 3 years of operating room experience required. Minimum 2 years current surgical first assistant experience required.Requirements for RNFA are successful completion of an RNFA program that meets the 'AORN standards for RN first assistant education programs.Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse/ NPMust possess and maintain a current Registered Nurse license issued by the State of CaliforniaBasic Life Support (BLS)Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certificate (ACLS).Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certificate (PALS). within 90 days of hireCNOR/PON or NP is required. Certification for First Assistant required.Special Skills/TrainingGraduate of an accredited Registered Nurse/ NPDemonstrates knowledge and skill in applying principles of asepsis and infection control.Demonstrates knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology and operative procedures wherein the RNFA assists.Must have the ability to read, write and speak English.Software: Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Internet required. Working knowledge of performance improvement, licensure and accreditation requirements. Demonstrate good capacity for teaching, organizing, planning and development. Possess strong interpersonal communication and customer relation skills. Possess knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.PreferredPrevious RNFA experience: minimum 2 years current surgical first assistant experience preferred.Robotic surgery experience preferred Urology gynecology and general surgery experience preferred.
