JCC Greater Boston is seeking a part-time Adaptive Aquatics Instructor. The Aquatics Team is a lively and fun group to work with. We seek new team members who possess high standards, are customer service-oriented, and are collaborative.This position will pay in the range of $30-$40/hr. as a starting salary. The salary offered will ultimately be determined by the hours the employee will work, the scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity. The hours for this position would be +/- 15 hours/week. Minimum Qualifications: Create a safe, supportive environment which fosters confidence and develops swimmer proficiencyEnsure the safety of all swimmers by implementing preventative measures and minimizing hazardous situationsTeach swimming techniques and water safety skills to students of all ages with special needs, using prior experience and the Swim Angelfish curriculumEstablish individual swim goals, identify roadblocks, address challenges, and help swimmers meet swim skill benchmarks that create water safety, increase leisure and promote overall swim abilities Use discretion, adapting the approach, as needed, to meet the unique needs of each swimmerProvide ongoing, effective communication with the supervisor regarding all classes and programmingMaintain class recordsManage equipment used for sessionsRecognize and respond according to protocols for emergenciesOther duties, as assignedQualifications Is 16 years of age or olderHas a high school education or equivalentIs calm, patient, flexible, creative, and empathicHas prior experience working with various populations in the adapted space, including children and adultsHas a love working with both children and adults, helping them achieve their goalsHas strong customer service and teamwork orientationHas intermediate swimming skillsIs able to use a gentle, effective approach when working, being able to adjust to different personalities, aptitudes, and attentional levelsIs able to attend in-person and online training (Paid Training)Is able to work a flexible schedule Demonstrates an ability to communicate with community members and coworkers in person effectively - in person, over email, and on the phoneEssential Functions for Aquatics AdministratorIs able to: see, hear, and cognitively recognize situations requiring lifeguarding serviceswork in a high temperature and high humidity environment for extended periods while wearing required personal protective equipmentmake safety-related decisionsread routine and technical documents, write, understand, and speak English. follow set instructions for the swimming programstand, walk, sit, stoop, and kneel frequentlyswim at an intermediate levellift up to 30 poundsuse a computer and answer a telephoneADA Statement: Individuals must possess these criteria for knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation and using some other combination of skills and abilities.JCC Greater Boston welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds who meet the requirements specified above.
