Summary These positions are located within the Department of Veterans Affairs Chalmers P. Wylie Ambulatory Care Center of the Engineering Service in Columbus, OH. The Electronics Mechanic primary duties are to inspect, install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair general electronic equipment under the responsibility of Engineering Services. Responsibilities Major duties and responsibilities include: Extensive experience performing the work of a journeyman level electronics mechanic without more than normal supervision; Working in a hospital or ambulatory care environment maintaining, testing, installing, and troubleshooting electronic devices and systems; Experience with Nurse Call Systems, Fire Alarm Systems, Electronic Surveillance Systems, Alarm Systems, Pneumatic Tube Transportation Systems, and Electronic Temperature and Humidity Monitoring Systems; Utilizing the theory of electronics; Troubleshooting electronic circuits down to the component level; Using a variety of specialized hand and power tools used to install and repair electronic equipment and systems; Performing calibrations and testing of electronic equipment using a variety of electronic test equipment; Serving as a technical advisor in regard to electronic equipment and systems; Extensive knowledge of Joint Commission, Nation Fire Protection Agency, and other regulatory agency codes and standards. And all other duties as assigned. Qualifications PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Frequently lifts and carries unassisted items weighing up to 40lbs. The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping. Climbing and working on ladders may be required. Some work may require the use of magnifying lenses and/or microscopes to accomplish repairs on miniature components. Performs work in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Work is sometimes in restricted areas and may require exposure to conditions of heat and cold, outside in inclement weather. Education Additional Information Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
