Location: Ames Shift Requirements: 40 hours per week; Monday - Friday; Compressed work week is permissible; Extensive travel within-state is expected but generally according to your own schedule; Overnight stays are optional; Telework may be possible after a six-month training period, however, still expect to spend time in the office to retrieve hard files. The amount of travel time is about the same amount of time in the office (or remote site as approved) doing paperwork. As a Right-of-Way Agent 2, your duties will include, but are not limited to: * Conducting field reviews for billboard applications. This involves operating a state vehicle equipped with an electronic measuring device and walking on varied terrain including ditches containing tall weeds, water, insects, or deep snow. * Operating an IPAD that has a collector-app for capturing field data on advertising signs. * Researching the right-of-way limits for the site by retrieving survey plats, highway plans, and old strip maps. * Creating and assembling a packet of information and forwarding it to a lead worker, along with a recommendation to approve or deny the permit application. * Patrolling for illegal signs placed along the primary highway system. * Checking county assessor sites like Beacon and Vanguard for property ownership information. * Initiating correspondence with the owners of illegal signs by using the approved templates. * Working with owners of illegal signs to achieve compliance or removal of the sign; sending removal instructions to DOT District Staff when efforts have failed with the owner. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree and two years of Right of Way Agent experience in real estate appraisal, property acquisition, real estate sales or management, relocation assistance, right of way engineering, or other real estate or development support activity of comparable level; OR an equivalent combination of experience and education substituting of one year of the required full-time experience in real estate appraisal, property acquisition, real estate sales or management, relocation assistance, right of way engineering, or other real estate or development support activity for one year (30 semester hours) of the required education to a maximum substitution of four years; OR an equivalent combination of experience and education substituting one year of the required full-time experience in field-commissioned sales work, engineering survey, highway construction inspection, or as the manager of a business for one year (30 semester hours) of the required education to a maximum substitution of four years; OR an equivalent combination of experience and education substituting satisfactory completion of any American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers Course, Society of Real Estate Appraisers Course, American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers Course, or American Right of Way Association Course, or its equivalent for one year (30 semester hours) of the required college education with a maximum substitution of four years; OR Employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time work as a Right-of-Way Agent 1.
