POSITION: Transportation Secretary (Grade 6) (12-Month) The Transportation Secretary, under the direction and supervision of the Manager of Transportation, performs administrative functions to assist in various aspects of WCPS student transportation operations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE: * Performs a variety of secretarial duties requiring experience and judgment to ensure successful school bus transportation operations, within the Board of Education's budget constraints. * Prepares and distributes correspondence, forms, documents, and reports as appropriate. * Collects and records data as necessary and maintains appropriate files and records. * Assists with data entry and extraction using various transportation software programs. * Orders and maintains office supplies, bus safety curriculum, and equipment as needed. * Answers and screen telephone calls, opens and distributes mail, provides information, and forward messages as appropriate. * Serves as a bus radio operator. * Prioritize requests, inquiries, and complaints and responds in a timely manner. * Communicate with parents, concerned citizens, school administrators and staff, bus contractors and bus drivers regarding student transportation issues. * Assist with the preparation of materials for various program reviews and audits related to Transportation Services. * Assist with the preparation and distribution of in-service and training materials. * Manage and reconcile credit card purchases and ensure accurate account entries for expenditures working collaboratively with the Finance Department. * Remains knowledgeable of applicable policies and procedures. * Provides support to other staff as necessary and appropriate to meet deadlines and identified goals. * Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS: * High school diploma or equivalency. * Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. * Ability to act independently with regard to daily assignments requiring the organization of materials, handling or routine administrative details, preparation of reports, and sound decision-making. (OVER) * Thorough knowledge of business operations and understands the school system's network, including programs and software, which are necessary to operate an efficient Transportation Office. * Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and interact in a positive manner with staff, educators, parents, and the public. * Demonstrates proficiency in computer and word processing skill, especially Microsoft Office Suite applications. * Proven ability to multi-task and function as a team player. DUTY YEAR AND SALARY: This is a 12-month position for 7 hours per day. Salary is based on Grade 6 of the Secretarial Salary Scale. (Range: $31,002 - $52,162). Salary will be determined by verified experience directly related to this position.
