Department/Unit: Anesthesiology General Work Shift: Day (United States of America) Salary Range: $78,773.63 - $122,099.12The ERAS Program Manager will be responsible for the management of ERAS Program services, ERAS Navigators, and systems necessary for a multidisciplinary approach to providing care to surgical ERAS patients. This individual works directly with the ERAS Anesthesia Director to achieve this goal. The position requires knowledge and skill of; principals of business management, professional nursing theory and practice, ERAS care and systems, principles of teaching and learning, research, and quality assurance and management. He/she is self-motivated and possesses the ability to work in a team driven environment. The ERAS Program Manager establish relationships with all related physicians/professionals or other health related groups within the community. The ERAS Program manager will collaborate with the Surgeons, anesthesia providers, ERAS NPs, unit staff and other team members. The ERAS Program Manager is responsible for supervision of preoperative day to day activities within the program to ensure smooth operations. The ERAS manager is responsible for managing their staff's (ERAS Navigators) clinical and institutional requirements, staff development and staff evaluation. The manager is responsible for maintaining an efficient, cohesive, and productive team within the department to achieve the institutional mission of high-quality provision of care for the patients. Administrative Role Assist ERAS Director with implementation and management of a coordinated system approach for comprehensive ERAS care at Albany Medical Center, in collaboration with Hospital Administration. Manage successful operation of the following functions: Preoperative ERAS Service functions, ERAS navigator and patient education, assist ERAS Director in ERAS performance improvement and patient safety, and assist in ERAS research activities. Assist ERAS Director in development of ERAS education materials and program, revise annually and present to the medical director, and the anesthesia chairperson Develop and implement annual plan and assist with formulation of recommendations to achieve plan objectives. Evaluate and recommend potential opportunities for cost containment. Anticipate ERAS patient flow trends and monitor monthly. Provide status reports of the preoperative phase of ERAS program. Manage day-to-day operations of the ERAS program, in partnership with the ERAS Anesthesia Director, and identify issues that will impact outcomes. Personnel Management Supervise ERAS program preoperative staff aka ERAS Navigators, including activities related to recruit, hiring, orientation, training, performance evaluation, and terminations. Maintain employee (ERAS Navigator) feedback process to enhance work processes and employee retention. Performance Improvement Facilitate and assist ERAS Director in the development and/or revision of patient care protocols and policies to improve ERAS care delivery. Recognize and address breakdowns in the system of care delivery for ERAS patients esp. in the preoperative phase. Participate in the development of the ERAS Program QIT plan annually in collaboration with Anesthesia ERAS Director. Compare and contrast patient compliance of ERAS prehabilitation activities across service lines, both past and present Quality Management Maintains compliance with hospitals accrediting body (DNV), New York State Department of Health regulatory requirements and internal benchmarking targets related to the ERAS Program. Assist ERAS Director with the oversight of all data abstraction related to the ERAS Program. Maintains preoperative ERAS database and reports pertinent data to ERAS Director for the purpose of improving patient outcomes. Assists ERAS Director in leading performance improvement processes for areas below compliance or areas identified for improvement. Clinical Activities Acts as an agent of change for clinical practice that will positively impact outcomes. Active member of the ERAS team and help ERAS navigators with patient care as necessary including patient education, setting pain expectations, collecting patient information, screening for barriers for ERAS care etc. Regularly demonstrates ability to exercise independent judgment. Consults with nursing and physician colleagues in situations requiring additional resources. Coordinates the interdepartmental process development and/or improvements (Nursing Units, Laboratory, Radiology, and others) that impact the ERAS Program. Focuses on measures to assure appropriate length of stay. Identifies and eliminates barriers to assure smooth transitions of care. Ensures supply of patient education booklets, protein shakes, incentive spirometer etc. Monitors ERAS patients' movement across the continuum from pre-admission testing, surgeon offices, floor care, to rehab. Educational Responsibilities Assists ERAS Director and facilitates the development of necessary staff education for ERAS care providers esp. Navigators on new or revised clinical practice guidelines, policies, procedures, and protocols. Obtain a minimum of 8 hours ERAS specific education annually Collaborates with nursing and physician leadership under the guidance of ERAS Director to ensure all educational materials are developed and reviewed annually. Program Development and Marketing Assists ERAs Director with program planning for educational opportunities within the hospital, and for professional staff, and maintains records of all events. Works with The AMC Marketing Department to promote the ERAS Program by coordinating activities and hospital exposure. Research Assist or patriciate in ERAS research projects. Assist ERAS Director and facilitate protocol design. Additional Responsibilities Comply with Albany Medical Center employee health policies and annual educational requirements. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree - required Master's Degree - preferred Current license to practice registered professional nursing in New York State Minimum 5 years working in an acute care setting, emergency nursing, or critical care required. Experience with perioperative patients preferred but not required. Working knowledge of medical terminology and procedures required Management and/ or supervisory experience preferred. Analytical/problem solving, and investigative skills required. Ability to work with minimal supervision required. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills required. Stroke computer skilling including word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and statistical software preferred RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure NYS Licensure and Registration Upon Hire - required Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
