Responsibilities: This position is part of an enterprise-wide Medical Office. This role is responsible for providing medical directorship, administrative, technical, and clinical operations of the assigned hospitals, systems, program, and services as well as support medical directorship of NYBC or the greater NYBC enterprise. This position supports management in making information medical decisions, develops and reviews medical oversight and responsibility for the technical and medical policies, processes, and procedures of specific operations. Primary responsibilities are focused on leadership of Transfusion Medicine fellowship 40%, support for Blood Center and Plasma Center activities 40%, and academic scholarship 20%. Function as program director with authority and accountability for the Transfusion Medicine (TM) fellowship program, including compliance with all applicable program requirements as per ACGME. Participate as a member of the TM fellowship program committee. Manage, trains, develops, mentors assigned staff. Participate in medical student and postgraduate teaching activities as a part of the Education Program/Dept. Provide medical support across the enterprise and for assigned blood center departments, transfusion services, and plasma centers. Provide daily coverage on all donor criteria questions and support on-call fellow as backup and makes decisions per medical criteria and provides replies for donor questions/complaints. Provide medical consultation and recommendations on training, technique, and education needs. Develops policies, procedures, and best practices for assigned program, system, or service. Assures participation in quality assurance activities and optimal performance of assigned program and services. Participates in the related hospital administrative and clinical activities as requested by hospitals. Participate in regional, national, and international societies dedicated to transfusion medicine, apheresis medicine and/or cellular therapies. Publishes articles, chapters, books, and lectures and gives presentations on a local, national, and international level. Make recommendations for improvements in organizational processes and practices.Participate in individual or team projects as required. Participate in professional development by attending conferences and seminars and is an active participant in national organizations. Depending on assignments, physical location position may be at multiple locations in multiple states. This position will be onsite on average 4 to 5 days a week. Readily available for personal or telephone (or electronic) consultation to the laboratorys staff and clients during business hours with on-call NYBCe responsibilities. On call schedule and frequency dependent on location. Any related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Education: Primary M.D. or D.O Board Certification in either Hematology, or Oncology or Pathology and must have board certification in Transfusion Medicine. Experience: At least five years experience in clinical/laboratory aspects of transfusion and apheresis medicine beyond fellowship training medicine with at least half in medical supervision of transfusion services or services of comparable scope and complexity. Must have significant leadership and involvement in house staff programs at their current institution. License: Full license to practice medicine in currently employed state with unencumbered eligibility to apply for and receive licenses in employer designated states within 6 months of the start of employment. Must have or be eligible to apply for all relevant designated NYS Certificates of Qualification(COQ) inclusive of but not limited to COQs in Blood Banking, Hematology ,Transfusion, Immunohematology, and Blood Donor Infectious Disease Lab testing. Must have 5 available CLIA slots. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Expert knowledge of state, federal, AABB and ACGME regulations. Ability to travel up to 25%, primarily in the northeast and MidAtlantic. Ability to provide medical directorship face-to-face, via phone/web-meeting or on-call to various groups. Ability to lead, direct and mentor staff. Strong attention to detail in all work processes. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. For applicants who will perform this position in New York City or Westchester County, the proposed annual salary is $300,000.00 p/yr. to $310,000.00 p/yr. For applicants who will perform this position outside of New York City or Westchester County, salary will reflect local market rates and be commensurate with the applicants skills, job-related knowledge, and experience.
