Front of House Butcher Location: Industry City: 254 36th Street, Brooklyn NY, 11232 About Ends Meat Ends Meat is a Whole Animal Salumeria and Butcher Shop (and prepared foods retailer) with locations in the NYC metro area. We focus on whole animal butchery, working exclusively with regional farms committed to sustainable and regenerative agriculture. Our mission is to provide high-quality fresh butchery, farm-fresh produce, fermented products, and hot lunches, alongside our traditionally inspired dry-cured meats. Description of the Role The Front of House Butcher is a critical customer-facing role responsible for providing an outstanding retail experience while ensuring that all butchery operations are executed with precision. This position handles all butcher shop needs, including setting up display cases, performing custom cuts, and maintaining food safety standards. This role requires a deep respect for quality meat and responsible sourcing practices, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced retail environment. Core Responsibilities Retail Butchery and Operations Custom cut meat for customers, including breaking chickens, pork, and beef. Set and maintain display cases, ensuring they are well-stocked, clean, and visually appealing. Operate equipment such as a bandsaw, slicer, and grinder to prepare meats. Maintain a strict food-safe environment, including regular sanitation of surfaces, displays, and equipment. Ensure proper rotation of fresh meats to minimize waste and maintain quality. Conduct regular quality inspections of meat products and dry goods. Customer Service and Sales Deliver exceptional customer service by engaging with customers, answering questions, and making product recommendations. Be knowledgeable about partner farms, their practices, and the different breeds of meat available in the shop. Have a working knowledge of meat preparation techniques and be able to educate customers on different cuts and cooking methods. Operate the register and process transactions efficiently, especially during peak hours. Upsell complementary grocery items, including cheese, dry goods, and local beverages. Inventory and Shop Maintenance Monitor and maintain accurate inventory of fresh meat, dry goods, and supplies. Ensure that shelves are consistently stocked with non-perishable and specialty retail items. Maintain sharp and clean knives and personal tools. Independently open and close the butcher shop, following standard operating procedures (SOPs) for cleanliness and security. Job Requirements Certification: Food Protection Certification from NYC DOH. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Comfortable working in a physically demanding environment, including standing for extended periods (up to 10 hours). Skills: Strong communication and task management skills with the ability to prioritize daily shop needs. Flexibility: Willingness to learn and take on new tasks as they arise. Compensation and Schedule Hourly Rate: $19 per hour, based on experience, and will be part of the tip-pool for the front of the house operators. Employment Status: Non-exempt, hourly employee (eligible for overtime). Benefits Package: Competitive benefits offered to all full-time Exempt and Non-Exempt team members with up to 80% of the premium contribution covered by The Company and 20% contributed by the employee.
